Stone shape to stone wall

Rules Questions

ok problem is I have a group with two rules lawyers who won't agree on anything Im about ready to take there books away and just tell them my word is law. however Im not that mean. yet. so question to the good people here can shape stone be used to take the stone from a cave and turn it into a wall there by blocking the oncoming attack and making my encounter useless? ps this will severely hurt the party if it works. thank you for your help

Stone Shape affects a very small area, and it does not allow you to move the side of the cave to somewhere else on the map. It only allows it to be reshaped(sculpted). As an example if you a stone wall is my path I could reshape so there is a hole in that I could probably crawl though. Now if they are trying to bend the part of the cave out like a gate, so that it acts like a wall that might work.

You can form an existing piece of stone into any shape that suits your purpose. While it's possible to make crude coffers, doors, and so forth with stone shape, fine detail isn't possible. There is a 30% chance that any shape including moving parts simply doesn't work.

10 cu. ft. + 1 cu. ft./level

Let's say the caster is level 15. That means he has 15 cubic feet.

That means that any stone shaped has to fit within that space

Example-->1 feet long by 3 feet wide by 5 feet high.
It is 15ft to the 3rd power, which is how I have seen many people misinterpret it.

Online calculator specifically for cubic feet

The wall should provide some cover, but I don't see it providing total cover. I would probably allow it to give a bonus of +4 to 6 to their AC if they use the above dimensions if the cave is only 5 feet wide. Other than that the bonus should depend on where the bad guy is in reference to where the player is. This is not an encounter ending tactic however.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, they should be just fine using Stone Shape to draw some stone from a nearby wall and present it as a wall. It will effectively be just moving stone from the wall and stretching it together.

Though they can only do 10 cubic feet + 1 cubic foot per level, so depending what level they are the wall might not be very thick.

thank you both very much. my game is today and I'm glad I am not the only one having trouble with this spell seeing how many I had to sift through to just find my question again lol. so now that I know the dimensions there is no way they can make a wall big enough to stop the oncoming attack I will take the added ac into account since I do like creativity.

The main thing to work with is the actual size of effect of stone shape. People tend to greatly over-estimate the size of the effect and how much stone they can shape. It's really quite limited.

well that section of the game is over and done with. everyone had fun and the player came up with something I let slide because it was interesting and funny. shaped the stone into big marbles that tripped the creature charging them. big marbles because it was a gargantuan creature
