Short version:
Typically, you lose three or four levels' spell progression on either side of the rail for taking Mystic Theurge (usually making it a bad idea). However, this being D&D, there are usually ways around that sort of thing. So...
1) Is there any way to take MT all the way such that you can get 9th-level spells on one side or the other by level 18?
2) More importantly, are there any other classes that can let you continue your dual-progression once you reach MT10?

Look at the organization rules in Inner Sea Magic, particularly the benefits for a generic Spellcasters Guild. Being a member in high standing can increase your caster level by three in one class AND by one in another (up to a maximum of your character level).
Unlike other bonuses to caster level (such as from an orange prism ioun stone, these bonuses actually grant the extra spells known/per day commiserate with the increase.
I currently have a 16th-level mystic theurge on file. She has a caster level of 16th as a druid (and can cast up to 7th-level druid spells as though she were a druid 14) and a caster level of 17th as a wizard (and can cast up to 8th-level wizard spells as though she were a wizard 16).
Not bad, wouldn't you say?

Sounds good. Especially if you dont mind giving up the druid abilities and a cpuple of wizard feats.
A wizard/druid focusing more on casting than anything else, that has always been a goal of mine. If my goblin wizard dies, I may try it. Evoker/Storm Druid? :) Or maybe the wizard specialization, for flavor, could be that of an Air Wizard? Fun.
