Stacking armor

Rules Questions

OK first off I know that stacking bonuses does not work so I cant for example wear a chain shirt over leather armor and get the benefits of both AC bonuses.

I also know that I cant stack enchantment bonues so if I have +1 AC chain shirt and +2 leather armor I cannot get +3 enhancement bonus to AC.

however...

can I essentially use the +2 enhancement from the leather and the +4 basic AC from the chain shirt? for a total armor bonus of 6?

No. You would have the AC of whatever the better armor is, enhancement included.

ask your gm.

by RAW, I believe it is a no.

im the GM.

i think your right on the no.

but i think I am going to special circumstance let it work because i want to give the character a cirtain item of loose clothing with a bonus to AC... but if i make it a deflection or natural AC bonus then later the player could just up grade their non magical armor in order to get a higher bonus than i am willing to give the character at this time.

so i have to come up with a cute way of making it work just hoped I could do it within the rules without resorting to clever machina.

thanx

The enhancement bonus belongs to each specific armor.
+2 Leather vs Chain Shirt = +4 AC from leather or +4AC from chain shirt. The wearer only has an AC (from armor) of +4.

Make it a button of magic vestment that happens to be sewn to the item of clothing right now, but applies a constant enhancement bonus to AC to any one suit of armour, shield or set of normal clothing that the user wears.

Actually Starglim something like that already occurs. Its called clothing. You can enhance clothing with an AC bonus.

An outfit of regular clothing counts as armor that grants no AC bonus for the purpose of this spell.

However, it still will not stack with the Leather or Chain Shirt.

Technically, armor enhancement bonus is not bonus to AC - it is enhancement bonus to armor score. So in case you presented you actually have +4 armor bonus to AC and +4 armor bonus to AC, not +2 enhancement bonus to AC, +2 armor and +4 armor.
