I'm allowing the Dreamscarred Press psionics book in a campaign. Due to the incredibly short list of psion spells I was thinking of just combining the psion and wizard list.
I have a system for converting between disciplines and schools and converting between displays and components.
The question I have is does this open up any can of worms I'm not seeing?
Does it imbalance either class to make it too powerful? I'm not seeing any reason it should, I just want some more eyes on it before I announce it to the party.

I don't really think that's a good idea, if only because it would be a *massive* boost in power for both psion and wizard - already two of the most powerful classes in the game. Both lists are very powerful, and both lists have powers that the other list does not have, so it can only ever be a boost in power for both parties.
Also, it would be kind of a pain to work out the whole augmentation/power point thing and how it would relate to spells for a psion. Conversedly, how would a wizard augment his psionic powers?
And I don't really get your reason for doing it, I've never really considered the psion list "incredibly short", its full of a lot of good choices - and thanks to augmentation the lower level powers even stay relevant all-game, whereas you hardly ever see a high-level wizard using 1st level spells. Psions can also grab the powers of other disciplines with feats, expanding options further (whereas a wizard has a much harder time getting spells off his list).

Psions are not supposed to have the library of spells a wizard has. Remember that like the sorcerer the Psion has access to ALL his abilities as long as he has points to fuel them.
You could do whatever you want, but if a player asked that of me, I'd hand him a bucket. If he asks why, I'll tell him it's because my answer is a resounding NO.
