I was cleaning off some old and never used programs from my hard drive earlier today, and one of them was this Walmart Music Store Downloads app. According to everything I can find, I successfully deleted it. But like some maddening ghost that refuses to stay buried, I keep getting the Windows Installer box telling me to install the app! I click cancel, it comes back and goes through the "can't find the application" routine. I click ok, it says the same thing, I click cancel it says the same thing. The boxes NEVER go away. They just keep repeating the same thing over and over, no matter what I do. I've rebooted my computer (OS Windows XP Home edition 64 bit) twice, and it pops up before the damned computer is finished booting!
HELP ME, PLEASE!

Let the computer boot ,Go CTRL+ALT+DEL go into task manager and find the program, if not found go to the processes tab and find it.
When found right click on it and select "End Process Tree" or "End Process"
Then you'll need to go into the start menu click run type "msconfig" and look in the start up tab and find the processes name and uncheck it.
if it's not listed in the "msconfig" it'll require going into the registry and it gets risky for the system.
If not I'll have to give you the old back door method of killing stuff
The back door requires knowledge of dos commands and console commands and is a little risky on the system

Thanks, A.Z. I've tried the first one several times already, but it's not in task manager's list of applications. When I go under control panel to remove the program, it finds it, but it won't let me uninstall it because "another installation is in progress" and that one must be terminated before I can uninstall the damned thing. But the one in progress is the one I'm trying to get rid of, and it can't find the program it wants to install and it just circles and circles and circles and I need a pill.
Digging into the registry and dos would not be wise for me. My knowledge of computery is so minimal that I'd turn this thing into a snowcone machine before I realized I'd done it. And while that would awesome, I'd still have the bloody Walmart problem.
I'll try the misconfig method, but if that fails I'm going to have to call in the Marines.
Thanks again!

Make sure you're in the Processes tab, Cal. Here is a picture of it. Scan through the list until you see one that looks like an abbreviated name of the program, like 'wmmstore.exe' or something. If you kill the process, that should stop it until you restart the computer. You'll have to use msconfig to kill it permanently, most likely.

Thanks, everyone! I'm pretty familiar with the Task Manager processes window, but the danged app was a bunch of random consonants that didn't say "Walmart" at all. But I did manage to find it, and once I disabled that I was able to delete the program entirely from the Settings menu. The sad thing is, I used to know how to do this. 10 years ago I even worked in a computer/networking company. Just goes to show you how a skill can be forgotten by not using it.
