Starting Carrion Crown Tonight! (6 / 15 @ 6 AZ time)

Carrion Crown

Been running a 4e game for, damn, nearly 4 years now, and I've finally gotten my main group to switch over to Pathfinder and I am so excited about tonight's game.

If there has been one thing that I've enjoyed in prepping for this game is the amount of support and material that the community has created. Just browsing the forums I've gotten so much material to add to the game I can't thank everybody enough.

My groups headcount right now is a Monk, Fighter (who doesn't speak common), Cleric, Gunslinger, and a Witch. I usually try to give my players free reign over what they want to do for their characters and for this game they ran with it. I can see townsfolk of Ravengro being a little suspicious of the Witch but I think my main problem is going to be the Cleric... the Kobold Cleric. I've got a player that's always trying to do something "Interesting" and that always equals "Challenging" for me. As long as it doesn't ruin the game for the other players though I usually just roll with it.

That said, I'd like anybody able to join us! We stream our games live and then edit them for podcasting. So if you'd like to see my group take it's first few steps into the world of Pathfinder join us at BeerandBattle.com or find us on FB! As the name suggests though, the Beer and Battle crew is an adult team with adult themes... consider yourself warned.

Awesome, I'm glad we've already been helpful! If you have any more questions, just post 'em!

Out of curiosity, could you say which specific pieces of advice you're using that have come from the boards?

Spoiler:
If I could start the AP over again, I'd totally have Adivion and maybe a few of the other NPCs from later in the AP be there for the funeral. And I also absolutely love the idea of making the Warden's wife the real main bad guy at the prison!

So far I've pulled off a lot of music to play, I stumbled upon a dim reference sheet with all the skill checks and xp charts and more which I think is goin to be very helpful.

Right now I'm listening to The Gamers Guide to HoH podcast.

That said, looks like I missed some stuff! I didn't find a thread mentioning having characters from later show up. Sounds like a great idea! Where does Adivion show up? I've got my pdfs with me but not my books, so if I know where to look I can find him.

I'm not too sure about making the wife the bad guy... but again, couldn't find that thread.

Quote:
Where does Adivion show up?

Spoiler:
Book 3, Broken Moon he gets name dropped at Ascanor Lodge.

If you read the final book of the series, the writers of the AP series talk about how Adivion wasn't foreshadowed enough in the series and there are a few threads here and there about adding him into the Adventure Path a bit more.

Ever have one of those games you spend so much time prepping you realize you didn't actually take any time to prep?

Bah, it went off, had a few bumps, but I think I had some information overload right before the game that through me off and I forgot the little stuff. It's going now and the players have their feet under them and I know which direction they need to be nudged.

I was able to find a little bit about Adivion, Thanks Inkwell! And though I had little about him I scrounged up a letter (During game while the players were RPing with themselves) that somebody had written for him. Think it went off. Players were like, "That guys cool... But I think he's an a~#%@&!."

Had a friend come through for me last minute with a recording of his daughters singing the Skipping Song, Didn't get a chance to use it this game, but that means I have time to clean it up. I'll post a link when its done.

I am definitely gonna want that link to the girls sing the song.

The idea about making the wife the BBEG was a recent comment on the main HoH GM Advice Thread. Here's a link to that particular comment:

I hope you've thought about what you're doing with the Trust Points system. It doesn't really work as written; most people recommend either giving out way more trust points, or ditching the system altogether. I went with more points.

The way trust points are written seem to push players in to the prison pretty early. I haven't told them that they are getting them yet, just been keeping a tally on my own. I plan on revealing them next game but without the daily -1. I figure my group can get those neg points all on their own.

Really enjoyed your game last night. How often do you guys play / when will you guys gather again?

PS - Let your Paladin know that the translator thing works great. Led to unexpected humor.

Interesting approach! It's smart to adjust them to make sure the players don't just ignore the town -- or, worse yet, start to hate the townspeople so much that they're happy to let the ghosts win. ;)

I'll let you know if it works Trinite. Mathius, I should have something finished by Monday. I'll put up the originals plus my cleaned up versions. One of my crew from the Kingmaker story line knows a little bit more about editing audio then I do and I plan on enlisting his help.

ScottieK, Thanks, that means a lot. By the end of the session I was feeling like a blind man grasping at straws. Depending on our schedules we play weekly. Usually have a notice up on our FB page a few days prior if we're going to play on Friday.

That said, I know Dave is gonna crank out the Podcast for this first episode pretty quick, might be worth the wait.

Grand Lodge

cant seem to find the video link ... how long till we see a podcast?

@Helaman, Dave's got a CD release party for his band (The Strand) in about 2 weeks so I know he's busy with that, so I expect within 3 weeks. But who knows, he might find the time sooner.

That said, Livestream has it saved @ http://www.livestream.com/beerandbattle. It's the June 8th one. If you compare the live to the podcast you'd be amazed at how much work Dave put's into it. From editing to voice modification and more. So I hope you like the stream, but IMO the podcast is way better.

It's not a masterpiece but it gets the idea across I think. I hope somebody else gets a chance to use it! If you do, PLEASE leave thanks for the girls that recorded it on the YouTube page!

Grand Lodge

I'll be outside the great firewall of china tomorrow so will check it out... and Good Luck to Dave on his release.

Grand Lodge

Ok... so its not the game of the 15th - its the 8th... was so confused by the game (watched a lot of it) but it makes sense now.

Really looking forward to the game of the 15th going up AND love your gaming set up

<--- I'm not the technician of the group, and I'm s#@* with dates. The 8th was a crazy game. One of those games were you plan one thing, then some people cancel so you plan something else, Then another person shows up so you plan something else.

So I did a prequel game to carrion crown to teach PF. That said I'll check to see were the f#&+ the 15th game went, cause we did the funeral and story building then. Ghaaaa... that s&@*s supposed to save by itself, but Dave's yelled at me before for closing the laptop before it does... don't think I did...

/ramble.

And now after looking at our Livestream page I was told that all of our streams were saved there... and I see only 2. So... I dunno. Livestream is just a byproduct of the podcast. When it works it works, but it looks like it aint atm.

Grand Lodge

So the Podcast (mp3?) is secure even if the Live stream is not? If so thats great news

Yep, and if you don't mind spoilers we'll be streaming in a few hours. Around 6 AZ time.

Grand Lodge

wooooot

The chance to be a creepy voyeur is hard to resist.:-)

Grand Lodge

would not load for me... I could see the live game, number of viewers but it just kept loading/buffering without leading me view the feed

Damn Helaman, That sucks! We had a nice little crowd watching last night and I'm sure you would have enjoyed the chat.

@Samnell... I'm sure by now you realize we don't mind "creepy" people watching us.

:edit:
Had a lot of fun last night, had about 3 more encounters planned then we got to but I'd rather not reach an encounter then blow through all my prepped material and be like"....Uh... ok I'm done."

spoiler:

My group can be a little... distracted sometimes so if I want to be subtle I have to smack them in the face with it. So I had Adivion pop back in saying he had found Sain in town and felt compelled to bring him to the house. Creates a Nice little connection between him the party and Sain for part 3.

And the Haunt in the house. I fudged the rules on that. Just 1 question? Nah, BORING, need to get some of the plot out there for them to start asking questions. So while they are doing the little seance trying to talk to the Haunt one of the other players is in another room trying to act as "Bait" and says "POSSESS ME!"

so i did.

and about a half hour later he shows up on the porch covered in blood.

** spoiler omitted **

I'll be creepier if I come again. :-P

My players stay out...and what are you doing reading this forum in the first place. Go read about some AP I'm not running!:
I wish I'd thought of putting Sain in Ravengro to pay his respects. I had enough breathing space that I could have Adivion be a late arrival ("I'm so sorry I couldn't arrive in time for the funeral") but a second would set off everyone's alarms, I'm sure. One player is OOC suspicious because Adivion is being so nice.

But another player wants to romance Kendra and sees Adivion as a rival. So that works out. Now they're discussing whether they should join Adivion's attempt to talk Kendra into leaving Ravengro with him, first to the Ascanor Lodge by way of Lepistadt ("The Shudderwood between here and the lodge is thick with werewolves! I could not ask my lady to take that risk. The river route is safe.") and then to Caliphas. When the time comes I'll just have to think of a good way to separate them.

Also the possession thing? I've been forgetting about Father Charlatan's haunt for months (PBEM time and all). So I decided to swipe your possession idea and make exposure to him, on top of the other ghosts and haunts around Harrowstone, sufficient to open the paladin's mind to a little light possession. :)

It was a really good session Ravens, and the possession was a nice little touch. I think a good time was had by all, both players and viewers. Although like most groups, yours seems fairly easily distracted off onto tangents, and I'm really not sure audience interactions is the best way to curtail that. I think I personally cost you at least half an hour of actual gaming time yesterday!

Grand Lodge

well, looking forward to the pod casts in a few weeks

So Livestream is not being our friend atm, but Dave did find a saved copy of last nights game and uploaded it to our main website. If for some reason you wanna watch it you can find it at

Carrion Crown Session 2

Its 800megs but it's there if anybody wants to watch it. Whether he's going to find session 1's video... who knows. He does SO much I try to only ask a little of him.

@ /Italian Accent Mono-TONY. As long as everybody is having fun, distractions be damned it's part of the night. I "TRY" to control the chatting a bit if we're at a good part but sometimes the group will do what the group wants to do. And I'm just the dm. I kill characters, not Buzzes.

I'm not a kill buzz, wait, no Kill Joy, I think that's what I trying to say.

Sounds so corny saying this, but Like us on Facebook to find out if we're playing week to week.
Beer and Battle

Grand Lodge

looking forward to the podcasts in any case

So I figured I needed a way for my players to Track Hero Points, after looking around for something online I figured I'd have to makes some of my own.

Beer and Battle Hero Points

My group always forgets about their hero points so I had these made up to hand out! They are 6x2 inch bookmarks with all of the relevant info on them!

PC gets a point? Give them a bookmark. PC spends a point? The give the bookmark back!

What you think?

Sczarni

Nice bookmarks!

Grand Lodge

Any news on the MP3s for Sessions 1 and 2?

Grand Lodge

how goes it?
