So Innersea magic introduces the idea of magcial faction schools that grant you fame & prestige for attending and passing semester exams. Now as written the standard way a player can gain fame & prestige is through completing the check at the end of the semester which is usually every 4-6 months. Problem is they say that you should be earning 4-6 of these point per level which means about 1-2 years is passing in game per level. Now I can get this from time to time but that seems a bit long to consistently maintain for me even with time jumps but on the other had cutting them down to match the few weeks or even days that can pass between levels in game sometimes can either become hackneyed and take away from the flavor of being a character in a college or you simply run out of ideas. So my question is how have any of you handled the whole semesters thing and how have you made it fit with your play style and really make it shine?

Been a while since I've read the book but isn't completing a semester just one way of gaining the points. I seem to remember there are tasks that are given to you as well as you can do stuff on you own if it matches up with institution you joined.
So you could be gaining a lot of fame just by attending classes and adventuring on in the downtime.

yeah they do mention that but as written many of them are meant to be a once per semester thing and usually only give you a single option (save one or two of them) which feels constraining to me on one hand but on the other makes sense as it feels right that the primary way a scholar makes their fame is through the schooling they receive and work they produce therein rather then through all their adventuring. Now I love this but it's hard for me to keep up that theme of scholars explorers without either feeling like I'm retreading something I've already done or losing sight of the fact that they are a student that is a part of the school (in this case a monastery) and therefore fall into the constraints of that group.

I find it interesting that in two years since this was posted there hasn't been any conversation on this. I have the same question. Having just picked up the book and reading through it, I find it somewhat at odds that it is "designed" for characters to make roughly 4 checks per level. this certainly doesn't match up with the time it actually takes a character to jump levels while in play. I also don't see where to many players would want to take their character out of action and simply place them in a school for several years. A number of the options for additional fame points involve questing of some type as it is.
So, how are people reconciling what I see as major disconnect? Do you simply disregard the semester time fram and let characters roll 4 checks per-level, regardless of the time spent? That would seem a bit unbalancing.
