Getting more martial training possible

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

Hello, can a rogue gain, earn, manuver a way into gaining more martial weapon abilities, or maybe exotic ones?

The Exchange

Unique in PFS? I've seen some Convention Boons that game access to Tien Weapons... so you could tag on a Katana or maybe one of the other Eastern weapons if you got one of those boons.

Is that what you were asking?

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There are a few boons that add a weapon. However, if you want a certainty, pick up the feat "martial weapon proficiency", then use a martial weapon of your choice. Or go with Exotic weapon Prof, if you find something else more to your liking. What are you trying to do with said new weapon?

Basically, what do you want your rogue to do?

Grand Lodge

The simplest way is to play a race which grants proficiency, such as Elf (longbow and longsword) or Half-Orc (greataxe and falchion, flails with an alternate racial trait).

If you don't mind being Lantern Lodge, you can pick up the Weapon Style trait to give you the kama, nunchaku, sai, or shuriken.

Finally, a Half-Elf alternate racial trait lets you take any one weapon proficiency in place of skill focus.

The Exchange

A rogue that takes combat trick as a rogue talent can use it to gain an exotic or martial weapon proficiency.

Just be mindful of the fact that you would need to have a legal copy of the pages from the APG with you in order to take advantage of the alternate racial traits.

The idea was for the rogue human swashbuckler to have more than just simple weapon proficiencies. He gets one martial weapon as a swashbuckler, but it seems that the others that I would want him to have would not be usable until he was able to acquire the right to use them.
A boon would not be my first choice in getting that to happen.

Giving us specifics of which weapons you want might help.

This is a PFS Forum, so answering with PFS Answers is appropriate.

If you are looking for a More rule related answer requiring research in looking through some of Paizo's Books, the correct location to ask would be the Rules forums.

You would find better answers there.

I stand (Sit) corrected. Yes the Advice Forums would be well suited.

Probably too obvious an answer, but...a level of fighter?

Sovereign Court

I will repost in the other forum. Thank you.

Well I went looking for the correct forum but only found
General Dis.
PFS GM Dis.
PFS Grand Lodge
Scenario Sub.

Where are the PFS forums that you would like me to take my question found?

They meant take it to a general, non PFS forum for advice and rules. However, I often find that doesn't work well. So, keep posting, and if the mods want to move it, they will.

Probably the general Pathfinder RPG Advice forum:

Indeed; you would almost undoubtedly wind up getting advice from people who aren't familiar with PFS's restrictions, and who may suggest ideas which aren't legal in PFS play.

I have such a boon for my own rogue...IIRC, if the character doesn't already have Martial Weapon Proficiency, it only gives you access to the simple weapons from the Eastern list. I had a hard time finding an interesting / useful weapon for her, given that restriction.

(just watching from the sidelines to see how this comes out)

Yes, I wanted to stay in the PFS forus if possible to make sure I wasn't doing an oops with my character.
The Eastern weapon boon dosen't really fit for my dude. But it was an idea. I am looking for something more like a long flail sort of weapon that would allow for reach that has a bashing type of damage.
I might just have to go the level of fighter idea to get him to where I think of him.
Hello nosig.

Don't say hello to nosig, you will only encourage him. Just ignore him and move on ;).

If you are just looking for one weapon, You can just take a feat for it or use the Rogue Talent to get the feat, that way you don't have to Multi-Class.

Hello nosig.

Something like this?

It is an exotic weapon, but still.

Sovereign Court

The flail pole sounds interesting, but it is probably a 2 handed weapon. I think the suggestion of taking a feat and or rogue talent will work for me. I will have to see if what I want is out there. More of a whip (chain) with a ball on the end (the ouch part).
Thanks all.
