Good miniature case?

Hello. I am probably going to start bringing some miniatures to Pathfinder Society events in my local area. I have quite a few Heroes and Monsters miniatures, along with the promotional Black Dragon.

However, if I want to bring these things to some local events, I need a miniature case.

Does anyone here have any suggestions for miniature cases? Ones you use for your own local events would be nice.

For the plastic minis I just separate them into ziploc bags. I use gallon sized with either quart or sandwich and some micro bags inside the gallon bags. I'll usually pull out the minis I need for whatever game I'm running and put them in a quart bag to bring with me. For cons I'll usually pick out a subset of all my plastic minis to use there.

I used to use metal minis and painted quite a few years ago, but since Hasbro came out with the pre-painted plastic ones, I almost exclusively use plastic now. Lighter, more durable, easier to pack, how can you not?

The bag categories I use are:

- Huge minis loose in the bottom of a plastic shopping bag

+ Large Humanoid
+ Large Other

+ Medium Heros/Civilized Humanoids
++ small bags for minis I have multiples of

+ Medium Uncivilized Humanoids
++ small bags for minis I have multiples of
++ Undead
++ one bag for small minis (sometimes this gets put in the Hero bag

+ Medium Aberrants/Animals
++ flying creatures
++ small bags for minis I have multiples of

+ Miscellaneous non-standard minis like farm animals and insects

For metal minis might I suggest:

these cases

I use the Chessex case myself. I like it, except it can be hard to open.

I live by my Plano tacklebox. Great slide out trays you can mix and match (each slot usually holds two minis plus big spaces for the staples) and a huge upper tray that can hold the large base stuff.

I use a Battle Foam PACK C4 to carry around a few dozen minis; generally one tray of PC-ish minis and one tray of monsters for that week's scenario.

One of my players uses a Battle Foam mini for his PCs.

Edit: Both of us use the Painted metal Reaper minis rather than the plastic; they're not quite as durable as the pre-paints.

Army Transport by Sabol Designs is a good case to carry a large number of minis and you can customize the trays based on what you need to carry in it.

Reaper Figure Case is also nice if you only need to carry a few minis with you.

If budget is a main concern, I use the single layer fishing tackle boxes. I bought mine at Wally World for about $5.00. I then bought two 18"X18"X1" sheets of upholstering foam, about $2.00. Cut them to fit and away you go.

A tupperware storage tub is even cheaper than that, and I've got my entire D&D minis and PFB minis in them.

But for metal minis, the sabol army cases with "pluck'n'chuck" foam columns are ideal for customizing your carry case to your minis.

For quick'n'dirty carrying solutions for metal minis, handgun carrying cases will hold a dozen or so very securely and will fit into a backpack.

For pre-painted plastic minis, you don't need anything foam like an army transport case. metal mini's sure.
For my PC minis (just a single, medium sized figure) I've been using old prescription pill bottles. They won't crush in your backpack or whatever, and it will hold a couple maybe 3 figures if they are smaller.

For when I'm running an adventure, or campaign, I'll put the minis I need for the enemy forces in a small box (Vaultz type) 5x8 card box...perfect size for Map-packs as well.

For storing my larger collection at home, I use the husky cantilever organizer I found at home depot

I have 2 of these. The upper tray holds medium sized figures well, and the bottom is good for large sized figures. I recently bought a third that is slightly different, it has a different arrangement in the upper tray and a deeper bottom that will be good for my many Huge sized figures.
Great for organizing (heavy fighters here, spellcasters here, archers here, halflings here, elementals here, etc...)

I've got over a thousand minis so I have a variety of ways to carry them around.

My PC minis are in a Walmart plastic box with internal dividers you can position. It may have cost $8 or so, I've used it for years. For most gaming sessions I use a Gamers Workshop plastic carrying case with foam inserts. Those are commonly used by mini wargamers, and it's awesome. However, they are quite expensive, I would never buy one, my brother gave it to me as a birthday gift.

To supplement that I have the most awesome plastic sewing case I found at a thrift store for just a few dollars. It is like a standard plano tacklebox, but it has an extra set of small compartments on one lid, which is the perfect size for medium minis.

If I need more than that I have several foam trays I cut and glued together myself for just a few dollars.

Before I got crazy with minis last year, I used to just carry my minis in a Crown Royal bag. It worked fine for a long, long time.

I use THIS for my minis. Its got a large open section in the top that any huge minis will fit in and I keep my markers dice and terrain in. It then has three trays. The bottom one is all open I keep animals, elementals, vermin in it. The middle tray has three long sections in it. One section has my giants in it, another has undead and outsiders in it, while the middle has monstrous humanoids and the like. The top I keep for all the pc/npc races so if someone needs to pick a mini for their character I just either hand them that or ask what they're looking for and find some that fit. Its tough and I've had it for a couple of years and its still in as good a shape as when I bought it (it was on sale for $25 at the time).

I use

it is large enough to move quite a few minis and still quite light.

I have about 50 Stack-On cases for storing most of my miniatures for D&D and Star Wars. I store the minis standing up which makes them easy to find with the clear plastic top.

For large bases too tall for the Stack-On, I use Artbin Super Satchel cases. Again, I like how the miniatures can be stored standing up making them easy to find.

I was in the same boat, looking for the cheapest, best looking case I could find to keep all my new pathfinder mini's. I didn't want those huge foam cases that cost an arm and a leg either. I went with the walmart fishing plano tackle box. You just cannot beat it for 40 bucks.

I use the left and right side cases for my undead and goblin pathfinder packs that I got from each of those packs. A whole case of each did not fill up either one of these side cases.

The top case I use for my heroes and smaller villians and rats etc. The bottom tray I use and adjust the slots to fill out all my large and huge minis and yes it will fit the large water elemental just fine or a minataur or fire giant.

The middle case I pulled out and stuffed all my star wars minis in it and left it on my desk when I go out to my PF games.

The top tray is big enough to not only hold the black dragon promo, but almost most of my maps, cut out cardboard dungeon tiles, pens, paper, character sheets etc all in one go. It's stuffed to the max but its all in there, anything loose you can think of goes in it.

The top two side snap trays are big enough to hold my entire dice bag, a can of copenhagen and the other side usually holds my cell phone and left over tray inserts from the other trays below, so I can still adjust stuff as I want to and not lose those insert/dividers on the go.

I usually carry my asus tablet with me to games but it could EASILY fit into the top tray as well with the rest of my maps, sheets and tiles etc.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST CASE FOR THE BUCK OUT THERE. I looked everywhere too.

One thing to think of is to check your newspaper for Michael's coupons of up to 30% off (or more). Then you can check out their plastic craft cases and get a good bargain. I got some stackable trays with individual compartments for less than $10 per case after Christmas.

For plastic minis I use a collection tackle boxs and craft cases.
I use a Feldherr case for my important metal minis
