Maul Dervish

Advice

Sovereign Court

Conceptual Background:
Imagine if you will, the hero as he/she lifts their maul and begins twirling it about their frame. Slowly walking into the battle, each swinging arc bring death and destruction. The momentum of our hero's weapon smashes down those foolish enough to get with in the Maul's deceptive range. Notice how an enemy archer fires an arrow hoping to bring down this avatar of death, only to see his arrow smacked aside. Our hero seems god-like; untouchable. An awesome titan of war. Then a man steps on to the battleground unfazed by the display. Pulling out a scroll he reads: COLOR SPRAY. Our hero falls. ;)

Can you help with this concept build? I'm looking at feat/skill choice builds. Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Piston Maul or Earthbreaker for weapon.

Sovereign Court

Thanks. What about feats? I was thinking maybe the Cleave line?

Grand Lodge

If you go Earthbreaker, look to the Thunder and Fang feat. If you go Pistol Maul, go improved sunder.

Fun image, though I would argue that one doesn't twirl a maul. As such.

Sovereign Court

I'm not familiar with Thunder and Fang. Where's it found?

Grand Lodge

Thunder and Fang.

Sovereign Court

Nice. But I just found out the GM is restricting us to Players Guide and APG...

To match the description you got to have the Shield of Swings feat.
It is more situational than good, but if you are a fighter and uses two-handed then you should have feats to spare.

Lunge might be a fitting choice as well, to grant him that extra reach when needed.

Sovereign Court

Nice. Here's a question. Is furious focus worth taking as a fighter?

Grand Lodge

Yes. The Two-Handed fighter archetype may be a good choice for you as well.

Sovereign Court

Are we talking weapon master or something else?

Grand Lodge

Something else.

Sovereign Court

So. assuming I want to include the Cleave line, Shield of Swings and say Sunder. What feat layout can I look at?

Grand Lodge

Depends on the goal.

Grand Lodge

If you go Orc/Half-Orc into Barbarian, then Destroyer's Blessing is the best.
