Gencon character creator

Last year I attended the GenCon convention in Indianapolis, where there was a decent sized PFS group there. There was a software on some laptops there that provided a very easy and balanced way to make characters. Is that software reserved for official Paizo events or is it available to the casual gamer?

They were probably using Herolab. Which you can buy from Lone Wolf Development.

And FYI, it might seem expensive, but if you use it a lot, its not that bad. It costs more than the hardcover pdfs, but less than the actual books.

It's not even that expensive unless you buy every single dataset. If you are truely casual, the base system covers the core rulebook and plenty of open content including all of the adventure paths and basic PFS support. And it comes with two licenses, so you can split it with a friend. If you want the APG, it's a little more, and if you are a DM and want to customize your monsters, add in a Bestiary or three. You can use the software to add templates and class levels to the monsters.

And if you like messing about with custom datasets, you can fill in the blanks (i.e. write your own item) for that one spell you wanted from UM, or that one feat from UC, etc...

The plan is to have the Character Creation Stations again this year at GenCon. However, we still need to confirm and finalize all the details with Paizo, so those plans could theoretically change. We expect to have everything nailed down at PaizoCon in a few weeks.

The primary purpose of the stations is for use by players participating in PFS games, but there is no absolute requirement for that. If you want to prep a character for a non-PFS game, or even spend a little while taking Hero Lab for a more in-depth test drive, that won't be a problem, provided you do it when there's nobody waiting to prep for a PFS game. Since the main crunch time for PFS games is primarily the hour prior to the start of a session, other times will typically work for casual use.

Yup, I helped out at the stations when I had a free slot last year, and then leveled up my rnger ffrom9 to 10 without the data set, only took about 20 minutes during a slow time

lonewolf-rob quick question, will these stations have all the add-ons? And can we bring our herolab characters with us on thumb drives to edit if needed during the conventions?
