Something wrong with APL?

Rules Questions

Ok so i was looking over the rules for APl (average party level) and I noticed that the comabt rating goes up for each creature you have in the encounter and Im having trouble believing that an encounter agaisnt 3 goblins is a cr 4 encounter this doesnt seem right can anyone clarify please?

More creatures means more actions made against the party.

I don't know where you are getting CR4 out of three goblins when a goblin is a CR1/3 creature.

Yeah, if one goblin is 1/3, two are 2/3 then logically three would be 3! Maybe they add one CR because they are one group?

I see the CR table mentioned that you increase the CR by 1 for each creature added, so I can understand the confusion when dealing with fractional CRs.

Simply add the XPs of the MOBs and compare it to the "Table: Experience Point Awards" to get the CR of the encounter. 3 goblins at 135XP each = 405XPS = CR1 encounter. 9 goblins @ 135 XP = 1215XPs = CR 4 encounter.

The "Table: CR Equivalencies" (which is giving you trouble) can be used, but I find it easier to just do the math myself and ignore that table.

Because you make them more than one CR, you first must make it one.

So 3 goblins is CR 1.
