If tactics say, "fights to the death" then taking out as many PCs as they can with them would be acceptable, but say focusing on one PC who the GM knows can't defend against a specific type of attack would be a no no because that would be information outside of the scope of bad guy's ability...yes?

If the enemy is intelligent, play them intelligently (but not metagamingly). For instance, enemies with more than animal intelligence can tell that the guy who looks like a tin can is going to be hard to hurt, and the frail guy in bathrobes who spent the last two rounds altering reality to his will might be more worth the effort of stabbing.

(Aside: "Fights to the death" is morale, not tactics, and only means that they don't give up or try to bargain or whatever.)

Now, if the GM knows that the Squishy Wizard is wearing a hat of disguise to look like an armored cleric and uses that knowledge to have his baddies attack him, THAT would be cheating.

Then what about destroying a magic item, book, etc that is the focus of a scenario that would keep the "good guys" from having it? Pathfinders get sent somewhere to retrieve an item. They fight bad guy who is willing to fight to his death. Bad guy is doing poorly and destroys item to keep it from the Pathfinders. Would this be within the tactics and rules of the game?

In my experience, the baddies usually want the item for themselves and it therefore wouldn't make sense for them to destroy it. But if it makes sense in context and doesn't contradict anything, go for it! (Make sure you cackle, though.)

Unless the bad guys have special reconnaissance, which i some scenarios, they do.

What about Blood at Dralkard Manor?
It had the ** spoiler omitted **.

Hidden Ways:
I seem to recall a crazed bronze dragon forcing you to help him recapture his "collection" of creatures. One party decided to attack the dragon instead...

Gotta admit though, Blood at Dralkard Manor is brutal too!

Silver Crusade 1/5

Ahhhhh.... such fond memories of Dralkard Manor. If I remember both groups I gmd it for liked it alot.
Sadly it was deemed unfit to continue its PFS career. It did have serious bodycount potential...so I understood the decision.

BTW, I miss the option of having the familiar used in that scenario. Not quite sure why it went away.

Spoiler:
Any group between level 1-7 that attacks an old crazy dragon has got to expect bad, bad things to happen to them. Although I will admit, some players did want to fight him as well -- until some other players talked them down.

Part of this problem should be addressed by the judge prior to the beginning of the event. Something simple is all that is needed, say "your party is comprised of 2 rogues and 2 clerics. Are you SURE you want to play up?" Or the reverse with a powerful, balanced party.

Not that it has ever happened-- just an example. ;-P

I know Bob addressed this but allow me to throw my support behind not making changes for the uberweasels. If every event is too easy for them and they have the audacity to complain (because they spent 14 weeks tricking out a PC in every possible way) then someone should suggest that there are always MMOs. These types eventually get bored and move on.

I encouraged a table of only 3 paladins (one tank build and the other two strikers) to play up one game, because I knew just about everything was an evil outsider... :(

PS: That frowny face was for the monsters. They blazed through the scenario.

For those players that think a scenario is too easy or that I am a "softball GM, I usually pull out King Xeros of Old Azlant. To date, I have only had one party make to the final encounter... and they were a 7 player table.

SPOILER!!!:
Xills for the win!

Yeah, that's right. Although, our 7 person table did consist of an alchemist and barbarian that couldn't roll anything above a 3 on a dice roll.

We found it a complete plow-through. Fun scenario, but not because of those specific fights.

Spoiler:
Cloudkill + Creatures at 5 HD = easy scenario
