Wand on a Rope

Rules Questions

I did a search and wasn't able to find an answer to this question anywhere. I'm making a fighter who's dipping into cleric for a few levels to pick up some defensive spells. Namely, with the defense domain, I get shield. I'm going two-handed greatsword.

I know I can't use weapon cords on wands, but what I want to do before battle is:
* Hold greatsword in one hand
* Hold wand in offhand, tied to belt
* Battle starts, first round, zap shield on myself, drop wand, move
* Second round, attack as normal
I don't mind having to drop the wand, but my character would more likely want to secure such a "precious item" in some way. I realize I can't draw it quickly, but if it's out, is it legitimate to have it secured in some way (to wrist, to a belt) so that when I drop it, it doesn't get left on the ground behind me? Thanks in advance!

That is up to your GM. I would allow it, but I would also tell you that with it not being sheathed it is a viable target for sunder attacks.
