Did you just have a great game - tell your GM

Apparently - after the last game - out on the street after the game (we tend to play at my house and there is often some after game discussion on the pavement once I have 'thrown' them out late night to clean up / prepare the table to be useable for next day breakfast) the group discussed the scenario and one of the players mentioned to the other gamers - 'This was the best game/scenario I have played yet'. It was his 25th scenario he had played so far.

I only heard this two days later 'by accident' when dropping by one of the other gamers two days later.

My plea to gamers: If you have a great game - let your GM know. There are so many ways this can be done:

Send him/her a short text message next day.

Send him/her a quick e-mail including the other players.

Give him/her a quick phone call.

Let him/her know after the game that you enjoyed it.

It is only a small investment - but worth it. A motivated GM will be a better GM for the next scenario.

So if you also had a good or even great game lately - let your GM know. And yes - this also works the other way round. If you feel the group you GMed just did a fantastic job and entertained you as GM - praise them and let them know you enjoyed having them at your table.

I know as a player that I sometimes forget to tell my GM -- whoever that may be --(if you're reading this Diego or Johnny, I've had a blast every time!) but I do try and remember.

As a GM I agree that it's one hell of a motivation to be better and provide a more kick-ass session next time.

If you are a GM, make sure you make the time to hang out after the scenario and after you've handed out the chronicle sheets.Often times you can learn things from your players about what they liked and didn't like. ;)

The GM, even if you don't think he/she did such a great job, took the time and did the work to try to provide you with a fun game experience. There wouldn't be a game if they didn't sit in that chair and do that for you.

Good GMs are made, not born. It takes practice, so cut them some slack, and always thank them for their effort.

Quite right! It's a practiced skill. In as much that one can be a 'natural', anybody can improve through practice. Be sure to encourage your new GMs.

I always ask for feedback after a session, either as I am doing the chronicle paperwork or just after. I tell the players being a gm is a skill and I only get better by hearing what worked and what did not. More often than not, I get good criticism and a few "thank you" comments.

I've actually had a table stand up and give me a round of applause. It would have warmed my heart; if I had one.

After running a session last weekend, one of my players said, "I thought I was going to die, then I thought I was going to live, then I thought I was going to die."

I told him that was the nicest thing he could have said to me.

You read their actions wrong. They were happy it was over and were celebrating.

What, really? I thought they were trying to stamp out the cloud of locusts and flies that follows Baird around.
