hey guys, im still stumped on flurry of blows and how it works, ive never played a monk before but one of my players is
what im stumped about is flurry of blows with a weapon
he is 2nd lvl with a +3 str bonus and he is using a quarterstaff. so what chart does he use, The Flurry of Blows or Base Attack Bonus(as TWF)?
Ex with BaB (TWF) -2/-2 + 1BaB + 3str = +2/+2
Ex with FoB +0/+0 + 1BaB + 3str = +4/+4?

Flurry of blows basically works like this, he is treated as TWF, under certain circumstances with the absolute minimum penalty to the attacks (-2) treating your BAB as you Monk levels.
So +3 str, +2 BAB, and maybe +1 masterwork from the weapon. -2 for flurrying, & that leaves you with +4/+4 attacks,

It all depends on whether or not he is making a flurry of blows or not. Sorry, that is confusing isn't it?
The thing is, monks have a normal BAB of medium (i.e., +0-+15 over 20 levels). Now, when the monk is charging, making use of the Spring Attack Feat, taking an attack of opportunity, or attacking as a standard action (such as when he moves more 5' and attacks), he can only use his normal BAB, regardless of which weapon (or unarmed strike) he decides to use.
Your 2nd level monk would thus have a +4 to hit with a quarterstaff (1d6+3) or a +4 to hit with an unarmed strike (1d6+3).
Now, when a monk takes a full-attack action, he may use flurry of blows. For these attacks, his BAB is equal to his monk level -2 (basically applying the negative modifier from TWF to his attack bonus, as if his off-hand weapon were light). That gives him +3/+3 on attacks, doing 1d6+3 (quarterstaff) or 1d6+3 (unarmed strike). Now, here is where it gets complicated. Depending on how the developers finally rule, a monk may or may not be able to make his attacks with a single weapon, which differs from normal two-weapon fighting.
As it stands now, he can make both of these attacks with unarmed strikes (1d6+3 each, because he doesn't do half-Strength on his off-hand), both with a quarterstaff (a double weapon, 1d6+3 each, lucky dog same as above on off-hand Strength) or one attack each with the quarterstaff and unarmed strike.
He cannot, as per the current clarification that itself may be clarified, get both of those attacks with one end of the quarterstaff. Although that may well change in the coming days (we have been promised, after all!).
You never add your 'flurry BAB' and your 'normal' BAB: you get one or the other, depending on whether or not the attack in question in a flurry of blows.
Hope this helps!

ok so if i was a 6th lvl monk using flurry of blows with a masterwork quarterstaff i would get 3 attacks?
Ex FoB +4/+4/-1 + 3Str + 1 MW staff = +8/+8/+3 with 1d6+3 damage?
instead of reg twf -2/-2 + 4BaB + 1 MW staff + 3str = +6/+6 with 1d6+3
if im understanding this right
The other difference would be the damage. If you were a fighter with regular TWF your damage would be 1d6+3/1d6+1. Your STR bonus is half for the off hand for a fighter (or rogue, or ranger etc), not for a monk
