How ethical is it to replay an AP you haven't finished playing?

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

Let say if you haven't finished an adventure path because your previous group has broken up, but you would like to play it to completion. Is it ok if you inform the group of your previous play through and join up (while keeping meta knowledge away), or should you wait to join when they get to the parts you haven't played before?

I would first talk it over with the rest of the group and GM, before anything else.

Beyond that, I don't consider it unethical, just as long as you do your best not to metagame and avoid spoiling things for your fellow players. I recommend against waiting, as you miss out on the RP and interactions of those early parts of the story that ingrain your character as part of the group.

I'm playing in and running Carrion Crown. Both are very different games. Then again, I really try not to metagame, either. If anything, it's made things much more interesting. Group dynamics are key.

The only "right" answer is to talk to the group about it. Let 'em know you are already privy to part of it, and see what they think.

It only becomes unethical when you know you've played it, and neither the DM or the Players know it. Then you are essentially cheating and if they do find out they may have a very dim view of it.

I'm GMing Kingmaker every other week and playing in it every week. We didn't both start in KM, but the weekly group caught up.

Be forthright and honest.

As long as you keep your meta knowledge to the side and accept the way the current GM has decided to spin the game (because every GM is different), it can be a lot of fun.

You also may able to conspire with the current GM on foreshadowing upcoming plot points or tuning an encounter for a better experience.

I can't see how this could be unethical (presuming they had no problem with it once you informed them). Who is being harmed?

Generally speaking i think informing the DM as others have said should be perfectly fine. i would also Not take a leadership role where appropriate. Ie letting others come up with ideas when you already know the answer.
