duel wielding gunslinger for a friend

Advice

I'm currently playing a campaign with some friends, and I have a buddy who wants to make a duel wielding pistol gunslinger. The problem is that we don't have access to advanced weapons yet.

Now I've come up with some house rules and a new archetype to allow him to play that character if need be, but I don't want to use it if there's a way for him to play this class.

The big problem is reloading needs a free hand which he won't have. He's also very against the idea of doing the vestigial arm or hex hair to accomplish this task.

if anyone has any suggestions on making this build viable let me know.

Quick Draw and Multiple Flintlocks.

It's how we did it in real history.

that sounds like an intersting way to go about it. I'm guessing he should use a double barred pistol then (4 shots per gun max). This will get him up to 8 shots per round for the first round, and then 4 shots for every round past then.

round 1: fully loaded shoots 4 shots, reloading hands kick in, shoots 4 more times.

round 2: reloading hands reload, he shoots 4 times.

round 3: see round 2

That seems to be an ok option. I guess once we get to higher levels he'll have to forego good magical guns and just go with Vazok's quickdraw method.

(while it makes sense from a historic perspective it's a bit restrictive in a rpg setting. Mainly because a single hit from a pistol back then would drop someone, they didn't have to worry about dragons, trolls, giants, ect.).

Wait until revolvers become available. Because outside of multiple limbs or magic,it's not happening. Or at most you can dual wield for one shot.

Your other option: Carry a bunch of guns.

I'm not certain if this works RAW, but I'm in the same boat, trying to build a Mysterious Stranger 1/Bard X for an upcoming game. Since I don't get Reloading Hands, I was considering the Quick Draw feat and using an Unseen Servant (cast hours before the fight) to hold one gun while I reload the other. With Quick Draw and Alchemical cartridges, you might get a full attack with each gun. If it works, it has the advantage of using a spell with a much longer duration.
