Do Saving Shield and Bodyguard Stack?

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I'm building an Honor Guard Cavalier for an upcoming game and have a question about whether I can use Bodyguard and Saving Shield on the same ally and have the effects stack. Assuming that I take no other attacks of opportunity and am adjacent with my ally I see no other reason why I couldn't just hurl myself shield first into harm's way.

Is there an official ruling that says I can't?

Yes they would stack as one uses an AoO and the other uses your immediate action for the turn.

So yes you could grant an adjacent ally +2 shield bonus and +2 untyped bonus for a +4 to overall AC

As both feats give different bonuses there's no reason that it doesn't stack.

But as saving shield gives a shield bonus it will not stack with the shield bonus from a shield the target ally wears.

If you want to do that take a look at the shield bearer trait and the swift aid feat, too.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the clarification guys. I'm using the Honor Guard archetype so the overall bonus I'd be providing would be +5 and seeing how my ward is going to be an Abberant Sorceror I think that's going to help out quite a bit.

Imagine being a Halfling with the Helpful trait to jack that AC boost up even further...

Here's my question though:

Does the enhancement bonus on a magic shield boost the ally's AC shield bonus (assume said ally isn't sporting his/her own shield).

Would JoBlo's mundane small shield and SuperCavalier's +5 large/tower shield both end up lending the same +2 AC shield bonus to an ally with the Saving Shield feat?

Not only Halfling, but tack on Benevolent onto your armor. Your Armor's Enhancement Bonus now applies to your Aid Another. So now you're looking at up to a total of +9. If you had the Arcane Strike ability, you could use the Gloves of Arcane Striking, granting additional AC equal to the damage bonus. (Unfortunately, this would not be combineable with Saving Shield, as it's a Swift Action to activate Arcane Strike.)

It's also important to note that Aid Another will only apply for one attack. I suggest you boost up that Dexterity some if you want it to be a relevant factor, and take Combat Reflexes, if you haven't already.

@ Shadoweir: The +2 is simply a static bonus. It doesn't say "Grant your ally your Shield Bonus to your AC." Here's the full text:

Saving Shield wrote:
Whenever an adjacent ally is the target of an attack, you can, as an immediate action, grant that adjacent ally a +2 shield bonus to AC. You must be wielding a light shield, heavy shield, or tower shield to use this feat.

Incidentally, it doesn't say how long the duration of this bonus is (if it's for one attack, until the start of your next turn, etc). I'd clarify with your GM as to how he runs it.
