So, I need 6 Items <1 lb. that are worth a Move action.

Advice

Scarab Sages

So I'm planning on using a Versatile Vest on my lvl 17 Front-Liner .
I need up to 6 Items that weigh up to 1 lb. I'm guessing this will be wands of some form but for the life of me I can't decide what to stick to me.
I also need advice on what to put into three pockets that hold "as much as 1/2 cubic foot in volume or 5 pounds in weight".
I have one filled with tangle-foot bags at the moment because those are the only alchemical thrown items I know of that are useful at lvl 17.

Help?

Alchemist fire and potions of Cure Serious wounds (among other potions) are still somewhat useful. What is your class(es)?

Why not a handy haversack?

Agreed, the vest is just a terrible handy haversack.

Or save a little and get an Adventurer's Sash:

This bandoleer holds six pouches along its length and a satchel at the hip. Each pouch has a stiff leather flap that can be secured against jostling with a clasp (requiring a move action to open or close) or left unfastened for easier access. The pouches and satchel each contain a number of loops and ties for further securing equipment. The sash buckles at the shoulder, and can be freed with a sharp tug in an emergency as a move action.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate. 1 person marked this as a favorite.

As worded, the adventurer's sash is worse than a common backpack. This still has yet to be errata'd, and will create rules headaches until then.

It doesn't matter why the OP has a Versatile vest instead of a Handy Haversack or an Adventurer's sash. What should he put in it.

No need to get snippy. The suggestions are valid, and lack any demeaning tone.

I already have a handy haversack. I was looking for a neat something to occupy my vest slot and this seemed useful at the time. I guess not. Was just curious if someone knew of a few handy things that should be always on hand should my haversack and I become separated. A kind of emergency backup, if you will.

If you have any suggestions as to what I should replace it with or some better way to use the gold I'm open.

As for my classes, the linked 'front liner' text is a thread about my character from a few days ago. All info you need should be there. If not, just ask.

How much gold you got?

You can always pack a few potions of Enlarge Person. In addition to the reach and damage buffs, being larger than your target will give you a +4 to Intimidate checks.

caltrops? marbles? blinding powder? ioun stone of deeper darkness? bead of force? necklace of fireballs? figurine of wondrous power? feather tokens? iron bands?

Scarab Sages

I have right around 10k gold at this moment, but i'll be getting more very soon (or so our DM has hinted) so don't worry about a limit.

Ioun stone of deeper darkness? Haven't heard of that before. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Which figurine/feather tokens would you take? There are quite a few of them.

Shrink item will up your options. With this, anything 16lbs or less can be held.

Dark Archive

Wand of Lead Blades.

Scarab Sages

Blackbloodtroll: oh, Excelent idea! A wand is kinda spendy, but worth it as I can shrink doors and rams and all kinds of useful things into slips of paper that I can store in one of the pockets. I can have a filing cabinet of useful crap!

Jarred: also an Excelent idea. I was looking for a way to do this when I started the build but didnt see that spell. :)

Looks like wands are the way to go so far. More ideas welcome. :)

This.

For real. 16 lbs of fire, premade, is a significant deterrent.

A 16 lb (2 gallons) barrel of Water/Ale/Acid/Etc should come in handy more than once.

A wand or two would no go awry (although wrist sheaths work well for that, especially spring-loaded ones).

Definitely consider a "get out of jail" survival kit. Bag with empty waterskin, dagger, fishing line, poncho, etc, all under shrink item should fit well.

Grand Lodge

Shrink item would allow you to carry a number of different sized nets. Very useful mind you.

Scarab Sages

What are the limits of shrinking things? Could the fire be turned into a paper with fire on it. Likewise with the nets. Do they become tiny nets or can I literally carry hundreds of different things in what is basically a pocket-turned-filing cabinet?

How exactly would 16 lb. of fire work? 16 lbs. of fuel, pre-lit? or literally 16 lb. worth of fire (basically a huge explosion)?

Grand Lodge

Look here.

Scarab Sages

Ok, so you can shrink a fire and fuel, but say you had a massive bonfire and you cast this spell on the flames themselves. Because there is no area of cubic foot limit, could you conceivably shrink 16lb worth of pure fire to paper form and toss that later for a massive explosion-like effect?

Grand Lodge

There is nothing preventing a shrunken fire from going out though.

Scarab Sages

This is true. Thank you for your insights. :)
