Help with understanding shield enhancements

Rules Questions

Okay, I'm trying to make a guy who fights with a shield (the recent spate of Captain America threads inspired me), but I don't fully understand a few things about magicking up a shield.

Shields can be given both DEFENSIVE enhancements (+1 to +5 to shield bonus, and up to +5 more from the armor chart) and OFFENSIVE enhancements (+1 to +5 to attack/damage, and up to +5 more from weapon chart). That's fairly straightforward.

But how does this interact with the Bashing property, which is a +1 DEFENSIVE enhancement...but which gives a +1 enhancement bonus to attacks!

If I have a +1 Bashing shield (equivalent +2 defensive enhancement), how much would it cost to give it a +2 bonus for offense? Would I need to pay 8000 (and it just overlaps the +1 for bashing) or would it only be 6000 (the difference between bashing's +1 and a +2)?

Because of the 2 sizes of damage, bashing seems like kind of a must (unless I want to go spiked, which I don't really)...but I'm probably going to want the Returning enhancement as well, which requires a +1 enhancement bonus (offensive)...does bashing qualify as that?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

First, I am pretty sure Paizo or 3.x Wotc has yet to print a shield that has both a weapon enchantment and a shield enchantment on the same shield. So there are no pricing examples to go by. (And also leads me to believe this isn't really the kind of item they wanted to encourage.)

That said, I the pricing should be the full cost of the weapon enchantment + the full cost of the defensive enchantment, with an extra 50% surcharge on the cheaper enchantment for having to enchantments on the same item.

So your +2 weapon / +1 ac bashing shield would be 8k + 4k * 1.5 + price of masterwork shield = about 14.15k.

I don't think there's an extra charge.

But, you will have to pay the full cost of 8000.

There is nothing preventing you from enchanting it as both a shield, and a weapon. It's just cheaper to enchant it with the bashing enchantment. Be sure to use a heavy shield to wield it with two hands.

Full cost of 8000 for offensive +2 shield. the offensive +1 from bashing doesn't stack but the size increase to damage makes up for it.

HOWEVER...if you get the Shield Master feat, enhancement bonuses to defense are applied to attack and damage bonuses. Normally need +11 BAB to qualify, but a ranger with sword+shield combat style can get it as a bonus feat at level 6. Soooo: cheaper price to enhance for offense, and can use the extra cash for cool weapon enhancements.
