Legend of Dragoon Pathfinder system.

Homebrew and House Rules

I've been thinking about this ever since I first found Pathfinder a few years ago and recently found D&D apparently has a LoD, Dragoon class that works the way it does in the game.

However, I'd like to see such a thing in Pathfinder. Before anyone says it, yes I have Ultimate Combat, and I know about the Dragoon class that currently exists, it does not fit what I am wanting at all:

For one thing, it's not a special character form, it's a Fighter Archetype, just changes to the traditional progression, where as the LoD Dragoons are normal characters that can shift into a different form.

For another thing, the Dragoon archetype in ultimate Combat is a spear weilder only. Where as in LoD the Dragoons use varios weapons ranging from a lognsword to bow and arrow.

Also, the Dragoons of LoD have "additions" for their attacks that allow for more than a single hit per attack (with the exception of those who use bow and arrow)

I'd love to see a version of this for Pathfinder, now that I've posted this, I'm going to go jot down the D&D system and look at what I can do to fit it into Pathfinder. I'll post an update if I can make it work.

You do know that Pf is a modified 3.5e D&D, right?

Anyway, I loved LoD but I don't think this would be the right system for it. I'd think you'd need to build something like that from the ground up or modify a different system, but I honestly don't feel it's appropriate for the base material.

I think it can work, especially if it's kept to a very limited option, or the campaign is based around it. The only real issue I'm seeing as I look into it is that putting in just Dragoons doesn't make much sense as it's such a specialized kind of character option. Given that the Dragoons were meant to take down Winglies and Virage. But, as I said, if it's kept as an extremely small group it could possibly work. Especially with the whole transformation system, the possibility of an addition system in a d20 system and the idea that Dragoon Spirits are embodiments of insanity.

Build synthesist form for them to use in combat, or have them gestalt into synthesist to emulate the dragoon form. Or use the Aegis from DSP.

Ah, LoD. Still one of my favorite games of all time. To this day, I've longed to get a player requesting to have a swordsman out to slay some evil monster that killed his family and join him up with other players who want to be a old mildly pervy martial artist, a warrior king, and various other on-their-own-innocuous tropes and run a LoD themed game w/o them realizing it (most likely due to them never playing it, but also from me changing all the names :) ). I would enlist the help of a friend to be my mole and play the PC "Rose" and help ensure they stay roughly on my unseen railroad tracks for what wouldl ikely be at least a year of gaming. Right up to the big reveal at the end of disc 3, where I break the whole elaborate scheme to them all, complete with youtube video link (warning: spoilers :) ), and let them finish out the game as they see fit (with me no longer necessarly sticking to the script and thus not caring about them knowing what's "supposed" to happen).

Man, that would be so epic!

*ahem* Sorry, got lost for a moment there. Anyway...closest I've seen to the concept is Rich Burlew's Champion class.

I would make archetypes for several classes that would tack on evolutions to myself, like the primal companion hunter archetype, but you use it like barbarian rage (entering and exiting actions, duration per day, and fatigue afterwards.) Just need to figure out what features to replace with the ability.

This is an old necro. If someone were to ask this question today, I'd just tell them to use a draconic bloodrager.

Well, if I were to do something based on Legend of the Dragoon I would handle it kind of like it is handled in the Games. The Dragon Souls are magic items, the characters are martial characters with out magic abilities of their own (in the game they all seem to be fighters/monks/barbarians).

So I would have everyone make their own characters normally, than have them all come across the Dragon Souls during the campaign. I would have the Dragon Souls grant the characters Mythic Ranks, and probably be Intelligent Mythic Magic Items in their own right.
