Nualia captured

Rise of the Runelords

My group, a 5th lvl cleric, 5th lvl paladin, 4th lvl wizard and 4th lvl fighter/archer just captured Nualia alive. They have already been through Burnt Offerings and the 1st half of The Skinsaw Murders. They wound up heading back to Thistletop to rescue a previous group of adventurers. I changed Nualia up to a 6th lvl antipaladin, and they managed to take her captive. I'm looking for suggestions for what to do now! They have her journal w/the confessions to burning the old chapel and killing her father. Once they get her back to Sandpoint...then what? The town's going to want to string her up. I'd like her to be able to escape...anyone have any good ideas? I'm game for anything!

You could have one of the Sandpoint's garrison guards be corrupt and aid her in escaping. If Tsuto is still alive he would have a keen interest in rescuing her.

A good general concensus (and what I used) would be for the PC's to hand her over to Sheriff Hemlock, who agrees that correct justice should be served, and she should stand trial in Magnimar.

This leads to the Sheriff (and PC's) transporting her to Magnimar, where she stand's trial, is sentenced to death by Justice Ironbriar, and then myseriously escapes the night before execution. (Actually sprung by Ironbriar, who likes the idea of her as a protege)

I used this for both Nualia and Tsuto, worked really well :)

In our game, I made a. Huge effort to redeam her. The dim did all the stuff suggested above with iron bar and my char agonized over it forever.

In the end she helped us stop karzoug but I never got to rap out her apparent shift to can as the game ended with his being trapped.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a nice red herring for the upcoming Skinsaw Murder's adventure and you want her to escape (how you handle that is up to you) you can set Nualia up as the killer.

Just think: a dangerous clawed cleric that wore a certain amulet around her neck escapes into the countryside. The bodycount begins rising, each victim covered in claw marks and bearing the same strange sigil she wore around her neck. How far you want to develop that is up to you, but be sure to clearly establish that the murders continue well after they've chased Nualia into hiding.

Alternatively, just have the Sherrif/Magnimarian Hellknights personally escort her to Magnimar. Give the PCs a win for a change. I know that doesn't happen often at my table. If you really want to use her again she can be rotting in the dungeons and a font of information on the brothers of the seven.

Really need more info:

How did they capture her?

How have they treated her?

How do the PCs feel about her?

Do the PCs know about her full backstory?

Did any of the PCs grow up knowing her or knowing of her?

Are any of the PCs sympathetic to her?

My party was regularly capturing bad guys and handing them over to Hemlock.

I had Tsuto hang himself in the Sandpoint Garrison while awaiting interrogation. His logic was twofold: that he wouldn't be able to betray Nualia in that way, and that she would raise him from the dead later on. (Of course, she would not have done any such thing!)

Given how often the PCs captured goblins and handed them over to Hemlock (who was starting to get a bit annoyed at the party dumping monsters on his doorstep), I figured that they would capture the human denizens of Thistletop and would do the same. I'd planned to have some mention of Justice Ironbriar as foreshadowing to events in Skinsaw Murders.

Of course, the PCs just killed her outright, and all of her companions. At that, I was kind of surprised.

It shouldn't be easy to redeem someone who is guilty of mass murder, actively worships a demon lord, and has a huge demon arm growing out of her shoulder. But never say die, I suppose.

As to the OP, yes, the town will totally want to kill her. If you want to make things interesting, have her spill her sad backstory to a soft-hearted PC, and have her show plausible signs of, if not contrition, at least confusion. Having her escape and become a recurring villain is a cliche, but it's a cliche that works better if you add (for instance) an emotional connection to one or more PCs.
