Tital Mauler with vestigial arm

Advice

I am looking at building a titan mauler barbarian and taking two levels of alchemist to receive the mutagen benefits. I am thinking to take the discovery vestigial arm to grant me a free arm.

At 6th level of titan mauler I take no penalty with a large sized weapon. With the two weapon fighting feat, can I use a large great sword with two hands (no jotungrip penalty), and use my vestigial arm to use a large short sword. Both at a -2 penatly due to two weapon fighting.

This would give me the ability to hit with 3d6+ 1.5*str dmg from the great sword and 1d8+str damage from short sword, only taking a -2 on both attacks because of two-weapon fighting and off hand being a light weapon.

As per errata/FAQ, thjotungrip has no effect on inappropriately sized weapons. There is an alternate tiefling racial trait that allows you to wield large sized weapons without penalties though.

I wouldn't be using jotungrip to hold the weapon. I am wondering if I can use my two main hands to hold a large great sword, and then use the vestigial arm to hold a large short sword and use the two weapon fighting feat.

Jotungrip does not remove penalties, or allow you to wield large sized two handed weapons.

You can't wield weapons in the vestigial arm.

Grand Lodge

You can wield two medium greatswords.

Pretty sure you can.

The arm does not give the alchemist any extra attacks or actions per round, though the arm can wield a weapon and make attacks as part of the alchemist’s attack routine (using two-weapon fighting).

It's not really a question of Jotungrip, it's whether you can use your extra arm to wield a 2-handed weapon while TWF.

Yes, the vestigial arm functions like a regular arm. With jotungrip, you could wield two medium greatswords, and a shield(including a tower shield).

I am not wanting to use jotungrip. I am using Massive Weapon gained at 3rd level of titan mauler to wield a large sized great sword (holding it with my two main hands) and then wielding a large sized short sword with my vestigial arm.

The question comes in whether or not I can consider the large short sword as a light weapon for off-hand purposes due to the massive weapons training from titan mauler.

With the two weapon fighting feat, I should receive a -2/-2 for both hands. Also, with 3 levels of titan mauler, I only take a -1 for large sized weapons.

This makes for a -3/-3 to full round attacks.

The Large Short Sword is a 1-hand weapon. Nothing in the RAW for Massive Weapons changes the size category progression (which is why you're stuck with a Large Bastard Sword as the biggest weapon you can wield with two hands).

Okay, so I need a large two handed weapon for main weapon, and a basic short short sword (or similar) for off hand weapon.

Oh wait, you are saying I can't even use a large two handed weapon are you?

Right. If Titan Mauler reduced penalties for all mis-sized weapons (and not just larger weapons), you'd really want to take EWP: Bastard Sword and use a Large Bastard Sword 2H and a Tiny Bastard Sword Off-hand. Same damage as a Large Short Sword, but you'd be able to double up on Weapon Focus, etc.

ETA:
Yes, RAW the largest weapon you can use with two hands, Titan Mauler or no, is a Large Bastard Sword. People argue over whether you need the EWP to do so (the proficiency allows you to use the Bastard Sword 1-handed, so when it goes large it bumps up to 2-hand). All Titan Mauler does is reduce the penalties.

OTOH, with Jotungrip you could use a Large Bastard Sword in your two hands and a Greatsword in the off-hand with a -2 penalty, but you'll also be taking the 1-hand off-hand penalty for TWF.

Yes, I am.

Right, and that would apply to the Greatsword (an appropriately sized 2H weapon being used 1-handed) but not to the Large Bastard Sword (a Large 1-handed weapon being used 2-handed, with penalty reductions from Massive Weapons).

Dark Archive

For the record, you don't get extra attacks with the vestigial arm.

It specifically says so in the text of that discovery.

Attacking with two greatswords is not an extra attack.

He's not getting an extra attack, he's substituting the vestitial arm for attacks that he would already have, which is completely fine.

Just to make people not b#*&~ about it, redward, I would suggest that you say it as such: "I'm using my main hand and the vestigial arm to wield the Large Bastard Sword two-handed, then using my off-hand to wield a short sword." This interpretation would be completely legal RAW.

Thanks, but I'm not the OP; just an interested observer. I've got my own Titan Mauler issues (shameless thread pimping).

There is an alternate tiefling racial trait that allows you to wield large sized weapons without penalty. It replaces the darkness ability.

I'm building a character for pathfinder society. I don't believe tiefling races are allowed.

So my build is: 20pt. build
(Heads up, I am choosing visectionist alchemist over rogue for the strength mutagen, the bonus arm, and better saves)

Str: 18 Dex:15 Con:14 Int:10 Wis:10 Cha:7

1st level- titan mauler - rage, EWP Bastard Sword
2nd lvl - Visectionist Alchemist- 1d6 sneak attack, mutagen to up str
3rd lvl - Visectionist Alchemist - Vestigial Arm discorvery, TWF feat
Small Bastard Sword in off hand, regular bastard sword main
4th lvl - titan mauler
5th lvl - titan mauler - Massive weapon ability (main weapon switched to a large bastard sword), weapon focus bastard sword feat

1 more level visectionist alchemist to get 2d6 sneak attack and up my saves a little bit.

The rest of my levels in titan mauler to get more BAB and rage rounds.

I could use some recommendations on feat choices for my build.
Also, how does Vital Strike work with TWF?
