Psionics and Shields

Product Discussion

Can a Psion use a 1 handed weapon & a shield and still activate his powers?

I see nothing in the rules against that - and it sounds reasonable, since a cleric can do it.
Although RP wise, it seems wrong....

(Assume the Psion has the required proficiency).

Typically (over the course of several editions) psionic powers don't have any 'components' like spells, so you ought to be able to use 'em even with hands full.

Liberty's Edge

No psionics in Pathfinder, so it would be better to specify what version of them you are using.

what do you mean 'no psionics in PF' !?

what do you call this:

Liberty's Edge

Dreamscarred Press

I call it third party supplement.

Grand Lodge

I believe there a forum for third party stuff.

Actually one of the paizo books does refer to psionics, sorry to burst your bubble, they do exist in Pathfinder. I want to say it was one of the hard cover campaign books that details the various areas of the Pathfinder world. As for the rules system to use, I would imagine the"default" rules would be the SRD psionics. Though the Dreamscarred Press is leaps and bounds better and slightly more balanced for the PF system (taking into account the massive changes to save or die, save or suck, polymorph) even being 3PP material. Paizo probably doesn't want to cover psionics any time soon given the huge gap between the camps. We'll likely see the epic book long before the PF psionic book/if ever.

That being said, a psion doesn't need their hands free to use powers (unless specified in the power) so weapon and shield in hand is legal.

A mention of psionics in one region, in a book that was a Pathfinder 3.5 is a far cry from actual rules support.

There is presently no rules support in Pathfinder outside of 3rd party books, so it is best taken to the 3rd party support forum. The poster is right, the Dreamscarred folks are where this question should be taken.

Moved thread.

Whether you use 3.5 psionics or Psionics Unleashed, the answer is yes. There are no components to manifesting, so you can do it silently with your hands full. Of course wasting the feats on shield proficiency when a force screen is more effective is hardly efficient, but it's his choice.

What Alitan, Dabbler, and Skylancer all said is accurate.

No, psionic powers exist on Golarion, what they are or how they work is undisclosed at this time and there is no rule for them. Golarion is a setting, and in the flavour text you find references to plenty of thins that aren't covered by the rules or whose rules work differently from what the flavour text say.

Pathfinder is a set of rules that can be played in several fantasy settings and psionics aren't covered at all in those rules.

well, my question is answered - thanks guys!
