Share Spells (Ex): The druid may cast a spell with a target of “You” on her animal companion (as a spell with a range of touch) instead of on herself. A druid may cast spells on her animal companion even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the companion's type (animal). Spells cast in this way must come from a class that grants an animal companion. This ability does not allow the animal to share abilities that are not spells, even if they function like spells.

Same or very similar text for plenty of classes.

Range

A spell's range indicates how far from you it can reach, as defined in the range entry of the spell description.
....
Personal: The spell affects only you.
Touch: ...
Close: ...
Medium: ...
Long: ...
Unlimited: ...
Range Expressed in Feet: ...

So an actual range of "you" don't exist.

My personal interpretation is that a range of "you" is the same thing of a range of "personal", but I have seen plenty of people claiming that it mean "any spell that you can cast on yourself", regardless of the range at which you can actually cast it.
As an example, the second interpretation would allow the use of enlarge person on a animal companion.

So someone has a definitive ruling that say if it is one way or another?
If not, please hit FAQ as is would be a good thing to correct that text, either substituting "you" with "personal" or with "any spell you can cast on yourself".

This isnt actually a problem Diego. The share spells line is stating that you cast a spell with a target of you at a range of touch. Most target 'you' spells have a range of personal. Without this comment (touch) everyone would be up in arms about what range they can deliver thier normally personal spells to the familiar or animal companion.

At no point is it stating a range of you.

@Diego:

Target: you

not

Range: you

Which is where the "share spells" business got me wondering. Does the spell literally have to say "Target: you" or can you share any spell you cast that targets you (like, say, a spell that targets a touched creature, which in this case is yourself)?

Normally spells with target of you can only be cast on the caster by the casters. Share spells allows you to cast these spells on your eidolon, animal companion, and familiar also, along with any other spell that you can normally cast on another creature.

It does not mean that spells with a target of you are the only ones that you can cast on your familiar as an example.

Ah, you're right. That sentence about type not mattering is separate from the language about actually sharing a spell. Seems weird to put it under "share spells", then, but whatever works.

LOL@FAQ candidates.

I've got a similar question as blahpers. So of course you can always cast any legal spell on your Animal Companion/Eidolon/Familiar/whatever. But is the intent of casting through Share Spells to explicitly limit you to using spells with a target of "You" with regard to bypassing target type?

I ask because I've read other posts that suggest you could, for example, cast Enlarge Person on your Animal Companion through Share Spells since even though you couldn't cast it on your AC directly, you could cast it on yourself. Is this a general consensus? If so, could someone direct me to the supporting material?
