Cleric Domains

Advice

Next game I possibly am going to be a special type of cleric. The game I am told we can not play any evil, so I have a limited number of deities. There are two sets of the two domains I like: Animal/Plant and Fire/Sun. They all could come in handy with my character. Which set should I choose, when it comes down to helpfulness. If you have any more suggestions, let me know...

Combined with the Boon Companion feat, the animal companion of an Animal Domain cleric is as good as a Druid companion, if you care to deal with the extra math (and trying to get it to do anything useful with Handle Animal as a cross-class skill!).

Erastil and Gozreh both grant Animal and Plant, and Erastil grants both the sexy Growth sub-domain and the decent Fur sub-domain. Gozreh grants Growth, but no Animal sub-domains at all.

If you expect a fair number of undead, Fire/Sun, combined with some improved channeling options, could make you a half-way decent undead-reaving machine. Being a gnomish pyromaniac can also make that combination a bit more fun.

Sarenrae grants Fire and Sun. The Light sub-domain may not play well with others (blind animal companions, cohorts and eidolons, whee!), and Day is eh. She grants no Fire sub-domains, so nothing interesting there.

Animal is cool. Get Adopted by gnomes and be an Animal Friend on your Trait. Get Handle animal as class skill and a bonus to your will saves.

What flavour of cleric do you have in mind? Do you plan to get buffed and smash things with a weapon, stand back and focus on spells and channeling, try your hand at archery, something else? Tell us a bit more about your cleric, and your preferred combat style, and that will help when it comes to picking domains.

Also, remember that you can be within one step of your deity's alignment, so it's possible that you could worship an evil deity without being evil yourself. (Unless our DM has banned evil deities, of course). The Evil domain and its subdomains would be out, but you've still got options.

Yes he has banned evil deities first of all. Second if I did pick a regular deity I would choose someone around neutral. My cleric I have in mind would use melee attacks, no bows and arrows but other types of weapons. I am not going into the channeling part unless my team needs it but I will focus on fighting and some of my spells. Is this a smart choice?

Gozreh's looking like your guy, then, as a N god. Though, as she's NG, a N worshipper of Sarenrae is also possible. Both of those deities give pretty good melee weapons (trident and scimitar, respectively).

Fairly, yeah. Channeling (outside emergency uses) should mostly be used to top everyone's HP up outside combat at which it is really, really, good.

If you go Animal Domain make very certain to grab Boon Companion as your 5th level Feat. It's eminently worth it.

I can't find it in the book. Where is it in the book or can you please just tell me what is the Boon Companion feat? Thank you very much.

Boon Companion.

It's from Seekers of Secrets, originally.
