i havent seen any official response/FAQ/whatever, but i strongly disagree with mathwei...
Hit Dice: For the purpose of effects related to number of Hit Dice, use the master's character level or the familiar's normal HD total, whichever is higher.
DCs for abilities (unless otherwise stated in the ability description) are effects related to number of Hit Dice (since, as an earlier poster pointed out, the formula for determining DCs is clearly based on the number of Hit Dice the creature possesses). this would not apply to something like the faerie dragon's casting because it states that they cast a 3rd level sorcerer (not 'as a sorcerer of their Hit Dice') but for DC or anything else that is clearly and specifically Hit Dice dependent the RAW certainly seem to support them scaling with the master's character level (not even their wiz/witch/sorc/whatever level, since the familiar ability specifically states "master's character level").

well... based on the thread abraham posted, and the apparent subsequent action, it seems that the default reading is correct- increasing HD does increase save DCs and other HD related effects. SKR confirmed that in the beginning of his response (by saying that by RAW the LoH should improve) and the subsequent action (altering one line in the silvanshee entry, not altering the familiar language at all) confirms that this is RAI intended as well.
issue laid to rest :)

Attrition wrote:I asked this in another post, but do you think the Feat: Noble Scion (Thrune) allow a player to then take Feat: Improved Familiar?I don't even know what that feat is.
It's a feat from the 3.5 days of pathfinder that has sense been updated.
As you can see it no longer does what he thinks it does.

LazarX, using nothing IS an option. By RAW: At first level you are granted a either an arcane bond or a familiar. You choose: familiar (ostensibly to prevent having the arcane bond focus requirement). At first level you don't want your familiar so you kill it. You then choose to never replace it. Thus, you have no familiar although you do have it as a class feature.

Cant he just release it with 1 hour ritual or something?
