Spell-like Abilities

Rules Questions

Can spell like abilities be enhanced with metamagic feats like empower spell?

Ex. I am playing the quingjong monk archetype and am going to take ki powers like scorching ray, which allow me to cast scorching ray as a spell like ability. so would empower spell effect this?

No. But there is the monster feat Empower Spell-Like Ability:

If your DM permits it, you can take that.

bummer. thanks though

under monster feats it says

"Most of the following feats apply specifically to monsters, although some player characters might qualify for them"

How can you tell which of those can apply to characters then? Specifically Im looking to see if things like empower spell like ability and quicken spell like ability can be applied.

They can all apply to player characters. Its just that monsters are more likely to be able to make use of the feats.

PCs usually don't have spell-like abilities, or be large sized, or have three or more arms, or have a fly speed. But if they did, then they could take those feats.

As long as you meet the prerequisites you are fine.

But since they are not in the CRB they are not automatically available without approval by your DM, that's what I was trying to say :-)

thanks guys. I got what you were saying before too sangalor. My dm is just the type to say no to things like this so i was trying to get some sort of difinitive answer to use as an argument before i brought it to him

That is not true at. They are actually available unless the GM says they are not available.

There is no rules saying that PC's are restricted to feats to the CRB unless the GM says otherwise.

There is no such dividing line. CRB are not automatically available while Bestiary need approval.

One can easily say that one cannot take ANY feat without GM approval. Many restrict CRB feats, while others do not restrict bestiary ones.

I've gotten into discussions about monster feats with every DM of mine, with the reason being they are labeled monster feat.
Good to see you share my opinion :-)
Is it in PFS this way, too?

True. To wit: Leadership. *flings open can of worms*
