For Eidolons: Climb Evolution or Climb Skill?

Rules Questions

If you want an eidolon that can climb easily the climb evolution seems the obvious choice, but would points in the climb skill work just as well and save an evolution point? If not would having both provide any advantage over just having the evolution? or just the skill?

Also if my eidolon has the Climb and Mount evolutions can I ride it while it climbs? DO I need to make ride checks for that?

The climb evolution actually gives them a climb speed versus just making a climb skill check. The Climb evolution is far superior to just the climb skill.

The climb skill lets you climb at 1/4 speed, you can climb faster by upping the DC.

The Climb evolution gives you a climb speed of the Eidolons base movement.

I would assume you would need to make ride check while the Eidolon was climbing.

Thanks bigkilla.

That seemed to make the most sense to me, so it would never really make sense to get the Skill evolution for Climb, Swim or Fly because the actual movement evolutions are much better.

You could stack the skill evolutions on top of the movement ones for the bonuses - just having a climb speed doesn't mean you never have to make checks and additions climb evolutions only appear to increase the speed, not the bonus (not that you'll need the bonus much or, depending on the GM, ever).

Another consideration is that you are able to reassign evolution points at level up. Those points in climb are not as useful once you your eidelon can fly. If you want him to.
