Rules Questions

what happens if you get fprce punched back into a pit, or awesome blowed? Do you get to save or just down you go? Also if you grease the edges of a pit is there an effect?

There is no overall rule giving you a save or some such to keep from going over the edge due to forced movement. If memory serves, there are a few sources of forced movement which allow such an escape, but they specify it in their own text. It's not an outside rule.

Well, okay, there is something in the Climb skill, but it's almost useless: you can catch yourself while falling (within reach of a wall) by making a climb check against the wall's climb DC+20. Good luck. And even if you do it, climbing requires both hands, so you'd have to drop your weapons, and if you had a heavy shield you can't even try.

As for greasing the edges of a pit, I don't think that (strictly speaking) there's any additional effect.

Are you talking about conventional pits or the various pit spells?

pit spell

Scarab Sages

Create Pit

Quote:
You create a 10-foot-by-10-foot extra-dimensional hole with a depth of 10 feet per two caster levels (maximum 30 feet). You must create the pit on a horizontal surface of sufficient size. Since it extends into another dimension, the pit has no weight and does not otherwise displace the original underlying material. You can create the pit in the deck of a ship as easily as in a dungeon floor or the ground of a forest. Any creature standing in the area where you first conjured the pit must make a Reflex saving throw to avoid falling into it. In addition, the edges of the pit are sloped, and any creature ending its turn on a square adjacent to the pit must make a Reflex saving throw with a +2 bonus to avoid falling into it. Creatures subjected to an effect intended to push them into the pit (such as bull rush) do not get a saving throw to avoid falling in if they are affected by the pushing effect.

This is weird, because I swear I replied to this thread...

Anyway... if you grease the side of the pit, the surface *should* become slippery (its not written in the spell, so its up for debate)

+5 if "Surface is slippery."

If you fall or get bull rushed into a pit there's no saves (but there are for drag or reposition).
