The colossal size category essentially stops at a space of 30 feet (6x6x6) with a reach of 30 feet for a tall, colossal creature. I have a dragon mini (no, the irony isn't lost on me) that is marketed as "64 squares of death!" because it takes up a space of 8x8x8. Should it also have a reach of 40 feet rather than 30 feet? Is there rules support for this anywhere or is it okay to simply extrapolate the size rules out beyond the standard colossal size? Thanks for the help!

Their reach is "Yes". As in, "Can it reach me? Yes."
Heh, my players would love that answer. *grin*
I know there's a colossal, great wyrm red dragon posted somewhere on the d20 site and I want to go look at it and see what it's space and reach are. It makes sense to me that there are things larger than 6x6x6 so extrapolation has to be taken into consideration I would think.
The mu spore is a weird case. That thing looks like it should take up way more space than a cube of 6x6x6 squares and yet it doesn't. Ah well, I can always houserule it. Something that is at least 100 feet long from tentacle to tentacle should be able to cover more than a 90 foot square space.

First, check the stat block for whatever beasty you're putting down. If you're wanting something extra special nasty, well then...
Googling this revealed an old post where someone said Wizards had implemented a size category in the Epic Level handbook called "Colossal+". I'd say that's probably the same as the only "Colossal"-sized miniature Wizards ever released, the Red Dragon (probably the same miniature you're talking about).
Anyway, reach is usually equal to the size of the base. There are exceptions to that, such as some bite attacks, tentacle attacks, etc. But I'd first rely on the stats, then if you're Advancing or buffing the creature, I'd rely on the size of the base or, better yet, whatever just darned feels right to you for how nasty your creature is.

I'm not interested in creating a new size category, to be honest. I just want to know if there is rules support for having creatures that are colossal to be bigger than 30 feet x 30 feet and have greater than a 30 feet reach. So far I haven't found any creatures (short of the red dragon model that is 40 feet x 40 feet in size) that support that.
On the d20 site there are some examples of great wyrms but they default to the space/reach of 30 feet. Even Choral the Conqueror is described as being "the size of a fortress" and yet as written on that site he only takes up a 30 foot space.
I'll just have to take it into the realm of house rules. Thanks!
