Are the animals going to be seperated in their different styles of bending?
Salamander = Fire Bending
Crane = Air Bending
Snake = Earth Bending (Special ability: Poison Bending)
Oooh, Or they can all bend but have special abilities (Such as Blood bending, Lightning, Steel, etc) based on their race O.O

Ok, using the twelve zodiacs as races and then incorporate the five elements as classes. Should be simple enough.
There are several very well done websites I found just searching real quick on google with bender classes 3.5 style. they could be easily upgraded to pathfinder by speeding up what they get. pathfinder seems to get bonuses faster than 3.5.

I mentioned a couple years ago to a friend that I had never seen Avatar but kinda wanted to, maybe.
He asked if I had remembered the crap-bag movie, Dances With Wolves and I said, "Of course I remember."
And he said that I'd seen Avatar then. Just without the special effects.
So glad I didn't waste any time watching it since I'd seen the early 90s version.

Different Avatar.

Different Avatar.
I had a 5 minute conversation on the bus once about Avatar with someone before we figured out we were talking about totally different Avatars. He was really surprised to hear that there was a (much better) tv version, and I was surprised that there was lots of linguistics in the world building that I hadn't even noticed. :P
Anyway, re: zodiac animals, the cat is also an option—it replaces the rabbit in the Vietnamese version of the zodiac. I somehow imagine cats as water benders, striving to keep the hated substance away from themselves.
