Spellslinger, 1 gun or 2 guns?

What is the advantage of using the 2 pistols for a Spellslinger versus the x3 crit of the single weapon?

Also, does the "single gun" route have to be a musket? Or can it be a pistol and still get the x3 crit?

It can be any form of firearm. As long as it is small enough to be wielded in one or two hands.

The trade off is that you don't have a reserve weapon if the one you're using misfires.
