Converting AD&D wizard, cleric, and thief's challenge modules

Conversions

I recently got The Wizard's Challenge, Thief's Challenge, and Cleric's Challenge, one-on-one modules and plan on converting them to Pathfinder. I have never done this before and have a few questions.

Just curious if anyone has already done so?
Any suggestions on statting out the monsters/NPCs?
Any "best practices" for converting modules?

Thanks for any help.

Keith

Most monsters of the adventures are probably in the bestiaries. NPCs can be adapted from the sample NPCs in the Gamemastery Guide. Both are available on the PRD. For skill challenges (especially important for the thief's challenge) converting into a DC may be a little difficult. You can do a lot of math, or you can just look at the percentage and figure out if it's meant to be easy, medium, hard or very hard. Easy should be DC10 for lower-level characters, Medium should be DC 15, hard should be DC 20, and very hard DC 25. Higher level characters should adjust this upward.

I have a few of these 2nd edition one-on-one adventures myself but have never done a direct conversion of any of them to Pathfinder. For the most part, they seem to be more story driven and less combat/dungeon delve so I would think you could get by as Paladin says with straight up conversions for most of the generic monsters and NPCs. I would take the main villain type NPCs and do a custom build for those probably, incorporating Pathfinder items and spells. My main rule of thumb for these kinds of conversions is flavor over form.

As i recall those adventures are solo runs so you might want to lower El a hair or two. Second edition at times was not known for it game balance. Dont be afraid to replace an encounter completly if it wat to over or under powered.

Thanks everyone! Was going to test this out tomorrow night with my son, but a family event came up so this may wait till next week.

There was a 2nd edition to 3rd edition conversion guide published (by WotC) that might be of help to you with converting the NPCs...

While not perfect, and certainly not for Pathfinder, it is a good place to start from IMHO...

You can download the PDF HERE (just scroll to the bottom of the page for the conversion guide)....
