Re-Animate Dead

Rules Questions

My question comes down to this:

Can an Undead that is destroyed be revived using Animate Dead? (assuming its body is not completely destroyed. As a side note, can Make Whole restore a broken or damaged corpse to usable condition?)

My example would be an Undead Lord Cleric with a Human Skeleton companion. When the ULC hits level two, can she dismiss her companion, destroying it, then re-Animate it as a variant (as per the class ability).

Similarly, if I control an undead via Animate Dead, and it is destroyed, can it be revived?

From animate dead itself... "This spell turns corpses into undead skeletons or zombies that obey your spoken commands.

The undead can be made to follow you, or they can be made to remain in an area and attack any creature (or just a specific kind of creature) entering the place. They remain animated until they are destroyed. A destroyed skeleton or zombie can't be animated again."

So no. You can't.

For the Undead Lord. You would need to find a new corpse, dismiss your first one, then perform your ritual on the new one.

I have no idea how I missed that chunk...

Thanks for that. I need to read things more carefully from now on.

I'm pretty certain that the undead creation spells have provisions against this.

You could, however, resurrect a destroyed undead creature, thereby making them a living creature again. You could then kill them and bring them back as undead (again).
