Wall of fire placement

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

can a wall of fire be placed on the ceiling, making the flame goes down instead of up, or could it be placed on the wall?

i'm thinking no, due to the flames rising up...it simply doesn't seem to be able to work upside down.

how about a wall of force. does it need to be anchored somewhere? say you have a large tunnel, and don't want something large coming through the tunnel... could the wall of force be made to leave only a small amount of room on each side, sort of like the wall is suspended in the air?

The wall of fire is 20 feet high. I believe you must measure height vertically. I don't see anything requiring it to be based on a solid surface, so you could cast it in mid-air and it shouldn't matter if the top edge touches the roof.

Likewise, a wall of force must be vertical and unbroken but otherwise can be placed where the caster wishes, as long as the entire wall is within his close range.

Walls of fire direct their energy in whatever direction you want when you cast them. You can absolutely cast one on the ceiling and have the heat damage projected downwards. Whether you fluff that as flames licking downward or not is purely up to your imagination.
