Hexcrafter - what spells do they get (and at what levels)

Rules Questions

The Hexcrafter archetype of the Magus (from Ultimate Magic) says the following:

Quote:
Spells: A hexcrafter magus adds the following spells to his magus spell list: bestow curse, major curse, and all other spells of 6th level or lower that have the curse descriptor.

in the same book Ultimate Magic in the back there is a section "Spells with New Descriptions" that includes the following about the curse descriptor:

Quote:
Curse: bestow curse, blindness/deafness, brand, brand (greater), crafter's curse, cup of dust, feast of ashes, geas (lesser), geas/quest, ill omen, mark of justice, nature's exile, oracle's burden, rest eternal.

[interestingly "major curse" doesn't appear to be on the list of spells with the Curse descriptor - perhaps that is an error?]

So except perhaps for any spells from additional books that also include the Curse descriptor this would appear to be the list of spells that might be added to the Hexcrafter's spell list.

However many of these spells are on different class spell lists at DIFFERENT levels. So my questions are:

- what level does the Magus get each spell? The lowest level it appears on any list? The highest level? The "typical" level - whatever that might mean? Of course many of these are unlikely spells for a PC to take (especially in PFS play) but Brand (level 0?) might be good for spellstrike), ill omen is potent (as a wand if not memorized), blindness/deafness is very powerful not sure if there are any others missing from the list in the back of Ultimate Magic... (anything from Ultimate Combat?)

Good question. I'll FAQ your post. I would in general go by "lowest level" as in most cases it will be pulled from a 9-level casting class while as Magu is only a 6-level. Also, there is lots of precedent for casters w/o 9th level spells getting spells of their primary theme areas early / lower level, and curse spells would certainly be in-theme for a Hexcrafter.

Leaving off major curse is definitely a mistake. UC likely added a bunch of new curse effect spells. Brand at 0 isn't so bad; Magus gets Arcane Mark already.

In the index there it is only the old spells with new descriptors in ultimate magic with that listing. Curse major has the curse descrptor. I don't remeber any curse descriptor spells in ultimate combat off of my head.

That's a list of spells that were already out, which needed to add the Curse descriptor. Major Curse was in Ultimate Magic, already with the Curse descriptor.

hmm so what other spells in Ultimate Magic have the Curse descriptor? Anything else that the Hexcrafter would get on their spell list?

answering my own question here are a few I've found, may have missed some:

Curse of Disgust (which is a Bard level 3 spell and a Witch level 5 so unclear what level the Hexcrafter Magus would get it)

Curse of Magic Negation (which since it causes a spellblight effect I think may be banned for PFS play?)

Cursed earth is a level 9 spell so not on the Hexcrafter's list.

Disfiguring Touch (level 2?)

Reprobation [level 4?] but mostly doesn't make any sense cast by a non-divine caster
