Liberty's Edge

So within the next few months I plan on releasing a web comic based off the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. It'll be similar in the way "Order of the Stick" and "Goblins" presents itself. Me and my writers are almost finished drafting the first season; however, there is always room for improvement especially if potential readers have something to say about it. So my questions are: What would you like to see in a web comic? What are things other comics have done that you would like to see again? What are you tired of seeing in other comics? And any questions you have about the comic or advice are all welcome!

For me, any comic based upon this genre has got to blatantly break fourth wall. The concept that these characters discuss game mechanics as if they are actually part of their lives strikes me as hilarious, I don't know why, but it does.

The comic format requires gags, I know. However, what keeps me reading a webcomic is the characters, their interaction, the story and the setting. Keep that going, and I am a happy reader. May I ask the name of this webcomic?

Not sure on the name yet. Like I said we're still working on scripting up season 1. But I'm sure we'll come up with something catchy and cool.

As for the the gags there will be some every now and then but I feel like it's over done. Don't get me wrong I laugh every time but I want to focus more on the story.

And believe me the characters are going to be wonderful. Some are based off of old characters we've played as so we really know them and have had years to develop personalities and stories.

It's not so much as something I don't like but something as I don't see being very original anymore. I don't want readers to think "Oh, he's doing what Goblins/OOTS did that one time."

Plus to me it's a little over done. Sometimes I'd rather the characters just move on instead of a full page of them discussing levels and game mechanics.

Don't get me wrong though. There will be outside references to Pathfinder or table tops but the characters won't be the ones doing it.

Strong characters are great! If you have the interactions down, everything else follows. I read dramatic comics just as often as gag-a-days and comics in between.

Before college, I really loved comics with long archives, but now I've fallen behind, so I can't recommend a slow or fast update speed.

I also suggest that you be unafraid of stretching the limits of your medium. I like that webcomics are so varied.

Oh yeah, the characters are defiantly interesting to say the least. Two of the main characters have had years of development. Plus, there will be three main characters in the first season(book) that the story follows. Jumping back and fourth between them at certain intervals kinda like "Goblins" does with the Goblins themselves and Minmax.

Just to give a little taste of the story one character will be be doing the whole standard adventuring thing as he and his party help explore and help with the Westward expansion of the world. For these parts we're using a lot of inspiration from all of our Pathfinder adventures and just good old high fantasy.
The second will be more of a vigilante in a steam punk city on the other side of the world. Shes trying to take down a notorious crime syndicate. It's going to be a darker noire style. Think Batman comics or any of the Thief games as far as looks and tone goes.
The last character is an industrialist character. This will actually be the more tame as far as violence goes and will focus far more on the character interactions. Most of the inspiration here is coming from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged", think of characters like Dagny Taggert and Hank Rearden when it comes to that section.

If I may: though it isn't strictly RPG, I do think Megatokyo is a great comic to draw inspiration from.
