Well, one of my player just selected the feat Leadership.
He would love to have a Girtablilu like cohorts (here a quick link for the stat and CR:

My problem is... level for this monster?
I was thinking about 13 or 14
Or maybe better a more high level?

Personally? Assuming you mean level needed to have it as a cohort, I'd go with 11, maybe 12, but probably 11. Eleven's the level for a 9th level cohort (so one with equal CR to the monster) and 12th is the level when you could get one with 10 HD, but I don't think the extr HD is such a big deal. Nothing unbalancing here, no broken SLAs or anything.
But that's just me.

I was reading the Bestiary, in the appendix, about cohorts and monster, and many of them have a very high level, even their CR is lower or maybe the half the level the books show!
Do not worry, my party is already at high level (15), so maybe the Girtablilu will need some fighter levels (or maybe just warrior levels)

Oh, well if they're 15th level, I'd give the critter 4 levels of Fighter. Or Ranger or Barbarian. Y'know, any Martal class.
And I frankly consider those rules pretty silly, for the most part, and would tend to ignore them...mostly anyway.
hmm, well many of that cohorts are magical beast or have many special abilities.
Anyway, the big difference between the monster CR and the level for cohorts that is showed in the books is huge for me too.
hmm, I can still use the rule for monster as player character and so create the cohorts
I think with a Girtablilu, Ranger is the best chose :) (just my opinion)
