Inquisitor 3 - Fighter 1. Worth it?

Advice

I'm thinking of Multi-classing my inquisitor with 1 level of fighter at level 4. Simple questions: Is the extra weapon profs, armor profs, and extra feat worth it to delay Bane, second judgement, and forgo true judgement? (most likely we will not get to 20 as is assumed but figured I would ask)

Let me know what you think!

In general, I find that Multiclassing in PF is not worth it.

Heavy armor prof? Rarely used. Extra martial weapons? Pick your deity well and you have what you need. Extra feat? Nice, no doubt, but not worth the delay to Bane, etc. Bane is better than a feat, anyday.

I have had only one PC multiclass, and she’s a half-elf so no penalty- she added cleric when the party REALLY needed more healing. I now regret it, but it was a good choice at the time.

Liberty's Edge

Nope, definitely not worth it. Your melee weapon options are actually already pretty good, depending on your deity, and Heavy Armor is only a Feat away. Burning a Feat is much better than burning a whole level, even if that level does also gain you a Feat.

Delaying level 2 Spells, Bane, and all the rest is eminently not worth it.

On the other end of the spectrum, I always multiclass my characters, I never take a character up to level 20us so I can't comment on that although if you do plan on going to 20th level then I would definitely not multiclass. As far as the extra weapon prof. Like above mentioned if you take the right deity then you have what you're going to need/use but heavy armor prof. Is always nice, especially for a melee character. The extra feat is great too as long as you know what to take and its not a character killer if you wait one level for bane. Ofcourse on the flip side would it be good to wait till after bane to multiclass?

Most likely you will stick with one weapon anyway. Half-orcs get nice weapon proficiencies.

the way I see multiclassing is that whatever you mc with or even prc with, does best if it works well with what you already have.

the one level of fighter
grants:
1 bab, more hitpoints, martial weapon prof, heavy armor prof.

no the lvl of fighter does not really help you since:
some of the inquisitors bane makes up for the low bab you already have and when two can be used, it can move up with damamge too.

heavy armor... is overrated and is not often used that has been stated.

the skills for both of them iirc are different...

all you get is a few more hits.

not worth it.

would have done better to start fighter first and then mc into inquisitor......

but worth it, no.

the 2 classes function to differently to do much of anything.
if you wish to mc your inquisitor, than rogue or ranger would do better than the fighter....... but then the ninja and monk might work too....

If you were going to multiclass with Fighter, you should have done it at level 1. The higher maxed HD, starting out w/ more money and better proficiencies (and being able to qualify for many feats at 1 instead of waiting till the 3rd level feat), and a bonus feat to realize your basic feat needs for the concept right away...that might be worth it.

Now? I would say it's not worth it. Wait for Bane, you'll be glad you didn't slow yourself down.

So by the general reasoning, if he waited to multi-class at 6th level (after he gets Bane) it would be worth it?

If your fighter dip consideration is just about heavy armor proficiency, then no it's not worth it. Much better to just burn a feat.

I am currently playing a 4th level Inquisitor that is gonna dip fighter at 5th. The justification is that I can accomplish in one level what it would otherwise take five levels to get; Heavy armor proficiency, Weapon focus (whip) and Whip Mastery.
The DM has said he's going to allow some MIC material and I intend to enchant 'Whirling' on my whip, so that I can hit every bad guy w/i 15 with a Bane (Inq ability) for massive damage.
Plus I can do the (mundane) battlefield control of tripping & disarming on anything w/i 15' of me boosted with those Imp/ Grtr feats.

at that point...

all he'd still get is
fighter
weapon prof
heavy armor prof
+1 bab
more hit points
nice fort save
bonus feat at fighter lvl 1

over
inquisitor

teamwork feat
judgment power increase
3rd lvl 2 spell
bab increase
each save increase

no to me its still not worth mcing with fighter at lvl 5 after inquis bane is retrieved

if a better weapon is wanted burn the feat
if its armor burn the feat....

I dont think its worth it.. but its not my character.....

1 level of fighter isnt really worth it for inquisitor 3, there are other choices to get most of what you would get which give much higher returns

such as Paladin 1
same bab boost as fighter
weapon prof same as fighter
Heavy armor prof same as fighter
same hp as fighter
no bonus feat, (fighter gets one)
+2 will save and +2 fort (fighter just gets +2 fort)
Smite evil 1/day (bypass DR on 1 evil opponent per day, should only be used on opponents you know are evil and are pretty confident they have DR of some sort inquisitors monster lore helps here).

This also opens up the choice of paladin 2 later in your progression if you want the bonuses from there. (lay on hands, Cha to saves)

I think it is great way to go. I went 4 inquis 1 fighter I belive. What people fail to realize BaB and fighter feats, too boot. For instance my inquisitor got spring attack and whirlwind attack 3 levles faster. While rocking mithiril fullplate, but as long as you have fun enjoy to your hearts content.

Bane is good and all imagine if you had it with whirlwind (evil smile). My inquistor is now 9th lev inquis and 1 fighter. The perfect single level dip for me.

Very good points! Thanks!

No, the Inquisitor class progression is strong: extra feats, spells and special abilities outweigh the benefits of a 1-level fighter dip.

I do like taking Heavy Armor proficiency for a melee Inquisitor, though - that's a solid feat pick.
