So, I'm posting here looking for suggestions, and wondering what to do next. Any advice for a relatively newbie GM would be most helpful.
The PCs have a half-orc with scent in the party. This changed the opening raid in Sandpoint such that Gresgurt was captured _before_ he could murder Alergast Barett. The chase cards were most efficacious.
And, being such goodie-goodies (ooh how I hate them!! that's the, uh, GM way, right?) they asked Abstaler Zantus if Gresgurt could have santuary in the new cathedral. Zantus said no...but Naffer Vosk said yes.
So now Gresgurt is stuck in the cathedral's basement with a True Believer of Sarenrae. And he's not reformed or anything, he's still just a goblin. And because Sandpoint is gossipy, well, there's going to end up being some sort of standoff between Zantus, Vosk, and Hemlock.
Gresgurt is a goblin. That means it's either going to get sneaky or messy. I don't like the idea of randomly rolling off-screen to find out what happens to him: I want the PCs involved. This means I'm probably going to ditch the boar hunt (Aldern: look what I caught!!), but I have to fill the intervening time with something cool.
One of my PCs is leaving IRL, and she's a monk devoted to Sarenrae (as luck would have it). The goofy way would be to just proceed as planned and just have Vosk asking for help getting Gresgurt a bath...but that's kinda a lame ending to a PC.
To recap:
1. Gresgurt is alive, and somewhat cooperative. (He knows an elf smuggled him into town, but he really doesn't know the big plan. I made him a fairly clueless Brinestump.)
2. Gresgurt is with Naffer Vosk, who's going to give him the Sarenrae treatment regime (ie, reformation or death).
3. Gresgurt's going to try and get away.
4. Zantus is mad at Vosk. Zantus is wearing an Erastil hat for the moment. I expect Sheriff Hemlock to show up any minute now.
I don't really care what comes out the other end, I just want it to be cool. Any ideas?
I've thought about what it would be like for Gresgurt to become a (probably TN) cleric of Sarenrae himself (he's got a 12 Wis). He'd be like, 'There are rules for burning people with the holy fire that lives in my soul...what are they again?'
Thanks for any suggestions.

Make the monk take Gesgurt in charge and hang up her adventuring cloak trying to redeem Gesgurt. Who says he can't change. From what I get of Sarenrae if he has a chance to be redeemed they'll try if not off with his head. This could lead to so slightly humorous events in town. Plus if your player ever comes back she can play the same character as a cameo
