So...
If I have a +5 in the "handle animal" skill, then if "take 10" is allowable, I can train most of the basic tricks (which have a DC of 15).
But I'm not sure if you are allowed to take 10 on a handle animal check.
Basically my third level witch has a week in town and wants to give the impression that he has a familiar (he is a gravewalker witch so has a poppet). Besides, he wants a pet.
So I am thinking of buying an animal and training it in the week I have.
But I'm not sure if I can take 10 and successfully train the animal to come, or if I have to roll, and if I fail, I might even lose the animal.
Any advice?
I am thinking of a hawk.

You can take 10 on any skill whose description does not specifically prohibit it (such as UMD), unless you're threatened/distracted by something other than the task itself.
The question is whether I quote Devs now, or after people have had a chance to tell us how terrible it would be to allow T10 on anything significant and how the RAI all but eliminates that core rule.

First, that's a hoot!
Second, and to the take 10. RAW, I dont see evidence for not being able to take 10.
Third, if you're not rearing it then you could always try again for tricks. I don't think it would leave.
Try Again: Yes, except for rearing an animal.
Fourth, definitely talk with your GM, but I don't see a lot of impediments for you.

No one ever has. Doesn't stop people from screaming though. ;)
EDIT: For that matter, nothing less than FOUR Dev clarifications stopped people, either. Take 10 is the reason I finally got around to figuring out the "list" functionality in my profile.
