I have a question on how exactly Martial Weapon Proficiency works.
Choose a type of martial weapon. You understand how to use that type of martial weapon in combat.
You can gain Martial Weapon Proficiency multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.
And types as listed by Weapon Qualities.
Weapons are classified according to the type of damage they deal: B for bludgeoning, P for piercing, or S for slashing.
So by taking Martial Weapon Proficiency three times an player would be proficient with all martial weapons?
*All quotes come from the PRD

Compare the wording on Exotic Weapon Proficiency:
Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Combat)
Choose one type of exotic weapon, such as the spiked chain or whip. You understand how to use that type of exotic weapon in combat, and can utilize any special tricks or qualities that exotic weapon might allow.
Types of weapons (such as spiked chain, whip, longsword, glaive, etc.) =/= types of damage (bludgeoning, slashing, piercing).

Then why is the word "type" used? Why not say: "Choose a single martial weapon. You understand how to use that martial weapon in combat.
You can gain Martial Weapon Proficiency multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new single martial weapon."
Maybe just another fragment of 3.5 sneaking in...

It is indeed a 3.5 holdover. This has already been officially clarified.
