Hi
A character of mine is dedicating himself to escape manacles, ropes and bindings.
I have Sleight of Hands and Disable Device as class skills and got really surprised when I saw the Stealthy Escape Trait (uses Sleight of Hand).
My questions are:
1- Is it possible/plausible to use Disable Device to escape Manacles (are devices)?
2- Is it possible/plausible to use a Masterwork Thieve's Tools to improve this check?
3- Assuming my PC is held captive (in a cell or in a group of slaves), can I take 10 or 20, by the rules?
Thanks!

1+2 are not possible if you are bound yourself normally.
However, if the manacles have a lock and you a thieves tool, your GM can rule that you can. Just ask him. Maybe prepare a good argument.
Equipment trick rope feat from from Society field guide says:
"Slip Away (Escape Artist 5 ranks): You gain a +10 bonus
on Escape Artist checks to escape from ropes and ropelike
restraints (such as vines)."
Could help.
Also "slick" armor enhancements and "Vest of escape" grant boni to escape artist. The latter also gives a bonus on disable device.
3. Taking 10/20 for escape artist is ok. For disable device its different, since it is counted in rounds. Also there is the clause that if you miss the DC by 5 or more, locks are jammed.
So i´m not sure about that, but i tend to a no. Just like with diplomacy, some things you just can´t do over and over again, once you messed it up it can be too late.

In effect, pick the lock of the manacles? If they have a lock, and you have a lock-pick in your hand, and you can reach one hand to the other, yes.
2- Is it possible/plausible to use a Masterwork Thieve's Tools to improve this check?
Again, you will have to be able to get the lock-pick to your hand, and your hand to the lock, but in theory, yes.
3- Assuming my PC is held captive (in a cell or in a group of slaves), can I take 10 or 20, by the rules?
Again, depends on circumstances. Personally, I would say no, as you will be under pressure in one way or another. Guards will run checks, other prisoners will snitch, etc.
