Can an eidolon use shields?

If it has the proper limbs evolution, why not ?

It needs the Shield proficiency, also, or will take the armor check penalty to attacks, as well, IIRC.

Also, Shield is a magic item slot. So only it or the Summoner could use a magic shield, if I interpret the rules correctly.

An eidolon cannot wear armor of any kind, as the armor interferes with the summoner’s connection to the eidolon.

A shield <> armor. A shield provides a shield bonus to AC, armor provides an armor bonus to AC. As Randall points out, if you're willing to eat the check penalty, the eidolon doesn't even need shield proficiency.

Not generally an issue since most Alchemists don't have shield proficiency and like to keep their hands open for weapons/bombs/extracts.

err alchemists bomb throwing has nothing to do with summoners and/or their Big E equipping/wearing a shield.

The issue to me would be the offhand slot. You can have one item for the both of them in each slot.. would a shield take up "off hand" or specifically "shield"?

Would it preclude a summoner from using a 2 handed weapon? like a bow?

oddity.. among oddities.

There is no offhand slot in PF.

Oops! Don't know why I was thinking Alchemist.

If the shield is not magic, can the eidolon use it?
A heavy mithral shield not have any armo check penality. An eidolon can use it normally. Right?

As long as the eidolon has an available hand to hold it in, then yes.
