I'd say 2d4 gp. Maybe tie it to the Sleight of Hand check in the same way as the Profession skill can be used to make money (figure that pickpocketing is the rogue's "profession").
Maybe you can flip through the trade goods section for some small, inconsequential items that a player wouldn't think to buy but might like to have, and have the rogue get some of that instead. The rogue could also find letters or other items that act as adventure hooks. Not enough to seriously impact the WBL, but still enough that the rogue feels like he didn't waste his skill points.
Also, make sure this doesn't affect the amount of treasure the rest of the group gets.

In a non adventure setting. IE the PC is not targeted a stat'd NPC or particular object of note. If the PC spends a days work picking pockets I reward him with the wealth of a perform check of the given DC. For every day he pick pockets the same general area the DC of the check goes up by 5 as rumors spread about pick pockets and an additional person makes the opposed check to spot him in the act. The penalty drops by 1 for every day he doesn't pick pocket. (I do the same thing for performance).
If the PC makes his living via picking pockets (ie he lives in the same city most of the campaign and strikes the same general area). I have him make the check as a profession check. Earning him DC/2 gp per week with very little chance of getting caught.
