Animal companions in the Six Trials? (minor spoilers for book 2)

Council of Thieves

How did folks handle animal companions during the performance of the play and at the party?

I think it would be pretty reasonable to have the AC stay backstage for the entirety of the play, but not being able to take him to the party would kind of cripple the druid during exploration of the knot. Still, showing up at a fancy party full of nobility with a large badger seems like a faux-pas :-)

My first inclination is to just present this to the player as an issue and see how he handles it, but I'm curious if anyone else has dealt with this so I can gently nudge my player if need be...

Well, you could always have the character cast as Dentris and then the badger is a familiar. At that point, the animal companion is not only part of the character, but also part of the costume and since they are expected to appear at the party in costume, it's no faux-pas.

Plus he could just play it off as he's an up and coming celebrity. A bit of the eccentric is expected. How many celebrities show up at high class parties today with their "purse dogs" in tow?

And really, would anyone have been surprised if the news had reported Michael Jackson showed up at a restaurant and insisted one of his tigers be allowed inside? Suddenly a badger doesn't seem so bad... :)

NOTE: I use Michael Jackson just because he's the first celeb I could think of with some off-the-wall pets. Nothing against Mr. Jackson.

Great suggestions! Thanks to both of you.
