channel energy and outsiders

Rules Questions

Does a clerics normal channel energy heal outsiders? In the entry it says it heals or harms living or dead. If it does heal outsiders why do you need the feats alignment channel and elemental channel?

This Feat (and a few other Channel Feats) really are very one sided. They are ok, in very, very rare circumstances. For example, a Negative Energy Channeling Cleric with this Feat, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE WORTH DOING IN A COMBAT, could use a negative energy Channel to heal Outsiders of a certain type, or to Harm Outsiders of a certain type (the hurting part they can already do). Is it wortha Feat to do this without hurting your allies?

Outsiders are alive.
The feat you mentioned allows you to target outsiders with certain subtypes such as good or evil.
What good is the feat?
Well if you are in an outsider heavy campaign, and you want to channel negative energy to harm living creatures it would normally effect all living creatures, but if you take "Alignment Channel" you can channel the energy to only harm evil outsiders without it affecting your group.
In short it is a way to affect creatures that are not undead without also hurting your party members.
The heal party works the same way, but seems a lot less likely to come into affect.

edit:I guess I should have read Beckett's post more clearly. I would not have had to write this one.
