Harrow Gambit

Homebrew and House Rules

So my GM devised a long background story for me using a book called (central Casting)

Anyway he gave me Exotic weapon proficiency throwing card and a sharp deck of Harrow cards.

If there is already such a thing where would I find it.

If there isn't what do you think?

My GM says probably Shurikens. I told him I would look for any official rules.

As far as I am aware, no such weapon exists in Core material; if I were you, I'd go with the DM's opinion. Shuriken are heavier and are more or less 'engineered' to be used as weapons. These cards, while sharpened and modified, are not going to be the same quality of weapon and barring you getting the ability to make them explode, are going to deal minimal damage. IRL, I'd say sharpened cards would deal non-lethal damage.

So the shuriken deal sounds good.

The Empty Handed Monk archetype treats any thrown item as a shiruken. While the intent is that you're throwing coins, tableware, and the like, I doubt any GM would look twice at using playing cards.

Alternatively, your character could take a level or two in an arcane class and say their magic missiles are playing cards.

My character will be a Wizard and eventually a Harrower.

I think Foghammer has the right idea. Just reskin the shuriken to look like a card.

Or a homebrew spell with a Gambit flavour:

Force Card:

The force card was developed by a wizard with a predisposition for games of chance. While not very good at cards, he was adept at stopping the thugs sent after him to collect his debts.

Force Card
School evocation [force]; Level sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect one missile of force
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes

You throw a small missile of force that appears to be a card from a Harrow deck. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack with the card to deal damage to the target. The card deals 1d3 points of force damage.

The Shuriken deal does sound good although I probably wouldn't use it often.

Shuriken are treated as ammunition for the purposes of drawing them, crafting masterwork or otherwise special versions of them, and what happens to them after they are thrown.

Generally speaking, ammunition that hits its target is destroyed or rendered useless, while ammunition that misses has a 50% chance of being destroyed or lost.

Masterwork ammunition is damaged (effectively destroyed) when used.

Although the game never mentions it I assume you need a full Harrow deck to draw from otherwise you could cheat.

Throwing a single card would make the whole deck worthless.

A typical Harrow deck cost 100 GP. I would assume that a sharp metal version would cost more. 111 gp would be the price with 2 SP for each card rounded up.

The thing is, I couldn't see bladed Harrow cards being sold singularly. The whole deck is suppose to be one thing, like Tarot cards. Not to say I believe in that kind of stuff but my character probably would.

I'll probably ask him to give me something different.
